Late-term abortionist Harold O. Alexander faces possible license revocation in massive case brought by the Maryland Board of Physicians

Forestville, MD — Abortionist Harold O. Alexander has been charged under the Maryland Medical Practice Act with a number of shocking allegations that could cost him his medical license including “sexual boundary” violations, botched abortions, shoddy or non-existent record keeping, and the illegal prescribing of large amounts of Viagra and other drugs to himself and non-patients.

The Maryland Board of Physicians filed the case against Alexander on January 20, 2012. It is based on numerous complaints against him lodged by patients and hospital staff dating back to 2006. “Looking at the Board documents, we see woman after woman who was injured and otherwise victimized by this man. To add insult to injury, their medical records were then conveniently ‘lost’ or destroyed. It has become obvious that Alexander is a menace to the public,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation.

According to Board documents, Alexander used the out-dated saline abortion method on “Patient A” in 2006 to abort her second-trimester pregnancy, landing her in the hospital with life-threatening complications. Alexander tried to deny that he ever treated “Patient A” and could not produce her medical records even though “Patient A” produced a $2,000 receipt for the cost of the abortion and prescriptions proving Alexander saw her as a patient.

Other incidents show that Alexander repeatedly violated the standard of care on abortion and obstetrical patients causing major complications, infections, and hospitalization.

The MDBP also alleges that Alexander made inappropriate sexual remarks to patients and crossed sexual boundaries with staff and patients, often hugging them and kissing them on the head. He often made crude references to sex and improperly made “admiring” comments about patient’s breasts and private areas.

Alexander also improperly prescribed himself vast amounts of Viagra and other drugs. He was known to routinely hand out Viagra prescriptions to “guys I’ve known for years,” as he put it, some of which he later claimed he had no memory of ever knowing. He also improperly prescribed other drugs such as Hydrocodone (an addictive pain drug), Wafarin (an anti-clotting drug) and Concerta (a drug meant to treat attention deficit disorder), and Propecia (a drug to treat male pattern baldness) to non-patients for whom he kept no medical records.

“Allegations against Alexander paint the picture of a sex fiend hopped up on Viagra who is also a negligent abortionist with sloppy medical practices and a free attitude about handing out drugs. These traits make up a recipe for disaster for everyone around him,” said Newman. “Alexander needs to be prevented from the practice of medicine in order to protect the public.”

Alexander is the latest in a long list of abortionists who have come under Board discipline in the past several months. Those abortionists include:

Romeo Ferrer, who surrendered his medical license under pro-life pressure after being charged by the MDBP in the 2006 botched abortion death of Denise Crowe.

George Shepard Jr., 88, had his Maryland license revoked after it was discovered that he was aiding the notorious Steven Chase Brigham in the unlicensed practice of medicine.

Brigham’s associate Nicola Riley, whose license was also suspended for her involvement in Brigham’s bi-state late-term abortion scheme and for lying about a felony conviction on her license application. Brigham and Riley were later criminally charged with murder for the deaths of viable babies during late-term abortions in Maryland.

LeRoy Carhart was issued a letter of admonishment for misleading statements on his Maryland license application saying he was an emergency room physician even though he has had no hospital affiliation since 1987.

In spite of the outrageous and shocking allegations against Alexander, the MDBP has not suspended his medical license and he continues to operate without restriction.

“We have conducted our own investigations into Alexander’s abortion practices and can only say now that this is not the last we will hear of him,” said Newman. “Stay tuned.”

Columbus, Ohio — Operation Rescue has sent one if its Truth Trucks to Ohio in support of efforts to pass legislation known as the Heartbeat Bill. The pro-life group Created Equal launched an awareness campaign using the billboard-sized banners mounted on a large box truck to encourage the Senate to move forward on the Heartbeat Bill, which passed handily in the House.

The Truth Truck features authenticated images of aborted baby remains along with text encouraging the Senate to take up House Bill 125, which would protect pre-born babies from abortion after a heartbeat has been detected. It would stop the majority of the approximately 28,000 abortions now taking place each year in Ohio.

“You’ve heard from the teddy bears, we’ve heard from the politicians, activists, women who regretted their abortions, Planned Parenthood, NARAL. It’s time the victims speak,” said Mark Harrington of Created Equal at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Every day the bill is delayed, babies die,” said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. “We are asking the Ohio Senate to stop the delay tactics and put this bill on the agenda for an up or down vote.”

In addition, Harrington launched a graphic video showing actual abortion footage with images of recognizable body parts extracted during a first trimester abortion in order to drive the message home to voters as well as members of the Senate.

“A picture is worth a thousand words, and if the Senate is going to drag this out, they really should see what kind of carnage they are enabling,” said Newman. “We encourage the good people of Ohio to contact their senator and ask for them to move the Heartbeat Bill forward.

“Our point is this: each day the Senate delays a vote on HB 125 – seventy one babies die – ten every hour – one every six minutes. Let that sink in. One baby is brutally dismembered, decapitated or disemboweled every six minutes in this state,” said Harrington. “If HB 125 would have been passed into law at least 90% of these children would be alive today. In other words, these unnecessary delays in the Senate are responsible for 14,675 deaths.”

Operation Rescue continues to denounce Planned Parenthood’s corrupt practices and is disappointed at Komen’s caving in to pro-abortion bullying.

Wichita, KS – The following statement is attributable to Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation:

We commend the Susan G. Komen Foundation for its decision to halt grants to Planned Parenthood in the wake of funding scandals that have resulted in a Congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood.

For years, the pro-life movement, including Operation Rescue, has protested Komen’s distribution of an estimated $700,000 a year to Planned Parenthood. This money only went to enabling Planned Parenthood to continue prey on women in order to sell them abortions.

Planned Parenthood does not always follow the law. Let’s not forget that in Kansas, Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinic in Overland Park faces 58 criminal charges related to illegal late-term abortions. Operation Rescue and other pro-life groups have conducted investigations that show Planned Parenthood fails to report child sex abuse and trafficking. Planned Parenthood of Golden Gate in California was disbanded due to financial improprieties.

While Planned Parenthood claims that abortions account for only three percent of their business, documents show that abortion fees account for 40% of its income. Furthermore 97.6 percent of pregnant women going to Planned Parenthood are sold abortions while less than 2.4 percent of pregnant women receive non-abortion services. Planned Parenthood remains America’s largest abortion supplier, responsible for 27.6 percent of all abortions done nationally.

But those abortions present serious dangers to women. Botched abortions that are being documented at Planned Parenthood abortion clinics across the country are landing women in the hospital, while they lobby against safety regulations and promote the dangerous telemed or webcam abortion pill distribution scheme, first uncovered by Operation Rescue.

Planned Parenthood abortionists are facing serious charges. For example, one of Planned Parenthood’s California abortionist Jesse James Joplin, recently had his medical license revoked after years of documented substance abuse. He worked for Planned Parenthood doing abortions for over 20 years. In Arizona, Planned Parenthood’s abortionist David L. Child, was banned from the practice of medicine last September after he had been disciplined for botched abortions and other surgeries four other times. In Maryland, abortionist Nicola I. Riley, who was trained in abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics in Colorado, was charged with murder in the death of a viable baby during an illegal late-term abortion. And the list goes on.

With this kind of sordid history, Komen was right to sever ties with Planned Parenthood. It is our hope that this will give Congress the incentive to completely defund Planned Parenthood and stop our tax dollars from propping up this failing and dangerously corrupt abortion enterprise.
