Washington, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump made news today during an interview on Fox & Friends when he said he would announce his nomination to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday or Saturday, after Ginsburg’s funeral services.

President Trump also stated that he has five women in his short list, including Amy Coney Barrett, Barbara Lagoa, and Allison Jones Rushing, and two others he declined to name.

He also indicated that he would like to see a Senate confirmation vote on his nominee before the Presidential Election on November 3, 2020.

Confirmation prior to the election is critically important.  As the Court stands now, it is believed to be ideologically split with four conservative and four liberal justices.  With indications that the outcome of the Presidential Election may be in dispute, it will be important to have that ninth seat filled to prevent a deadlock and the Constitutional crisis that would come with it, should the election results end up in the Supreme Court.

“It is Trump’s Constitutional duty as President to appoint a nominee when a vacancy open on the Supreme Court, and it is the duty of the U.S. Senate to consent to that appointment,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.  “The Democrats are running around with their hair on fire claiming that Trump is abusing his presidential powers by nominating a successor to Ginsburg, but the truth is that he is acting fully within the scope of his Presidential duties, as is the Senate.”

Newman indicated that this nomination is perhaps the most important decision President Trump will make during his tenure as President, with serious repercussions that will echo for generations to come.

“This selection, which we anticipate will be a pro-life nominee, has the ability to keep hope alive for an abortion-free America where all lives, regardless of age or stage of development, are cherished and protected by law,” said Newman.  “Should that nomination fail and the Democrats regain the White House, millions of babies throughout future generations will die, and with it our hope of ending the barbaric practice of abortion for decades to come.  We must support Trump’s nominee and his re-election.  Innocent lives and the very survival of America as a free Constitutional Republic are at stake.”
