Washington, DC – Operation Rescue opposes the nomination of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court and releases the following statement attributable to Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.
Elena Kagan’s support for abortion and her predisposition for judicial activism makes her a poor selection. We need a justice that will uphold the Constitution, not rewrite it though judicial activism. It is clear that as long as Obama is president, we cannot expect anything other than the nomination of radical liberal pro-aborts, even though those with that political philosophy and agenda are opposed by the majority of the American people.
It is also clear that we cannot wait until the composition of the U.S. Supreme Court is perfect before we employ effective strategies that will stop abortion now, regardless of the political posture of those in Washington, DC.
Abortionists are their own worst enemies because they believe and act as if they are above the law. In fact, we have yet to find an abortion clinic that complies with all state and federal laws. Once their illegal activity is exposed and the laws are enforced, abortion clinics close. We know from experience that when abortion clinics close, lives are saved because women who would have considered abortion instead make life-affirming decisions for themselves and their babies.
That is why Operation Rescue has instituted the Abortion Whistleblowers campaign that is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of abortionists who are breaking the law. [Read about Abortion Whistleblowers.]
We know that all babies will never be safe until the laws of our nation are amended to provide pre-born children with the necessary legal protections. For those laws to be amended and upheld, we will require a conservative majority on the Court. While we must work to oppose Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court, we will also continue to work through proven peaceful, legal strategies, like the Abortion Whistleblowers campaign, to close abortion clinics, hold abortionists accountable to the law, and significantly diminish the number of abortions now.
