Today, on the 50th Anniversary of the Infamous Roe v. Wade decision – finally overturned last summer – Sullenger is awarded with the Malachi Award for her decades of work saving lives and shutting down clinics.

Operation Rescue is pleased to announce that the recipient of its 2022 Pro-life Person of the Year Malachi Award is none other than Cheryl Sullenger, former Senior Vice President of Operation Rescue who retired in June of 2022.

The Malachi Award is given by Operation Rescue every year to recognize individuals who sacrificially work to advance the cause of protecting the preborn.

Cheryl Sullenger selflessly served Operation Rescue for over 20 years, contributing to the closure of literally hundreds of abortion clinics by faithfully researching and documenting abortion abuses, courageously reporting on these abuses when the mainstream media ignored them, and overseeing Operation Rescue’s meticulous National Survey for thirteen years – an investigative endeavor that requires countless hours and ever-changing strategies.

Sullenger is also known for being the first pro-life journalist to report daily from the courtroom during abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s gruesome 2013 murder trial. Later, she wrote The Trial of Kermit Gosnell about her experiences uncovering Gosnell’s wrongdoing and the bombshell revelations she witnessed during the trial.

With Troy Newmam, she co-authored the book Abortion Free: Your Manual for Building a Pro-life America One Community at a Time, which was based in part on her decades of experience. Other important works with Newman are Their Blood Cries Out!, Am I Now Your Enemy for Telling You the Truth, and Refocusing the Pro-life Movement for Victory.

Before her time with Operation Rescue, Sullenger headed her own pro-life activist organization in San Diego, California, which saved the lives of hundreds of babies.

All told, Cheryl Sullenger spent almost 40 years working to end abortion, and we have no doubt her noble work has helped spare the lives of thousands of children in the womb, along with the mothers who would have ventured into the shoddy abortion businesses Cheryl helped shut down.

Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, comments, “General Robert E. Lee famously said of Stonewall Jackson, when Jackson lost his arm in battle, ‘He has lost his left arm; but I have lost my right arm.’ Cheryl Sullenger has been a tireless warrior for the preborn children and an invaluable friend and strategist. I feel like I have lost my right arm in this battle for the preborn babies. Cheryl’s tireless efforts will be greatly missed, but so too her friendship and wisdom. We all pray her retirement is restful and restorative.

“Cheryl has helped craft over twenty Malachi Awards for great heroes in the Pro-life Movement, now Operation Rescue is proud to grant Cheryl Sullenger the Malachi Award for 2022.”

An investigative reporter, a stalwart advocate for the preborn, and certainly a hated foe of the abortion cartel, Cheryl has earned the Malachi Award a hundred times over. Operation Rescue is grateful for the opportunity to acknowledge Cheryl Sullenger’s life-saving work and name her Pro-Life Person of the Year for 2022.
