Kansas City, KS – Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) is seeking to surreptitiously open a new abortion facility in Kansas City, Kansas, by concealing its plans under a shell company that shares an address with PPGP’s Overland Park business office and abortion facility.

The deal was first discovered by the Kansas City-based group Planned Parenthood Exposed, whose president, Ron Kelsey, laid out the scheme in an April 5, 2022, press release.

A company called HealthTec Initiatives LLC purchased property located at 6013 Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas, for Planned Parenthood Great Plains and conducted renovations under the HealthTec Initiatives name to conceal the fact that the building would soon become a “full spectrum of care” Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

This is the property, located at 6013 Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas, is where Planned Parenthood Great Plains plans to open an abortion facility. It is currently owned by a Planned Parenthood shell company that shares an address with PPGP’s headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas.

Kelsey describes a similar scheme perpetrated by PPGP in Edmond, Oklahoma.  There, HealthTec Initiatives LLC purchased property at 1601 S. Boulevard Street in Edmond on July 12, 2021, for $540,000.  After conducting improvements on the property, HealthTec Initiatives LLC deeded the property to Planned Parenthood Great Plains for free on December 20, 2021.  That property then became an abortion referral clinic for Planned Parenthood.

The Kansas City facility is due for a final building inspection on April 18, 2022, after which a Permit of Occupancy is set to be issued.  This is the last step before deeding the building to Planned Parenthood for use as an abortion facility that is expected to attract a substantial number of women from surrounding states, including Missouri, which has only one part time abortion business on the other side of the state in St. Louis.

“There are already two abortion facilities just minutes from Kansas City in Overland Park, Kansas.  There is no market in Kansas to support another abortion facility in the Kansas City area, unless it is to market abortions to women in other states.  Kansas is becoming an ‘abortion destination’ state, and no one here wants that except Planned Parenthood and another abortion business in Wichita,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, a national pro-life organization based in Kansas.

The Wyandotte County Commissioners and the Kansas City Mayor’s office have the authority to deny the occupancy permit, which would prevent the abortion facility from opening.  All commissioners have remained unresponsive to pro-life efforts, except for Chuck Stites, 7th District Commissioner of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas.  Stites has publicly voiced support for efforts to prevent Planned Parenthood moving an abortion facility into Wyandotte County.

Time is running out for pro-life supporters to stop the opening of Planned Parenthood’s unwanted abortion facility.  While it is a long shot, anything is possible.

In 2019, Kelsey’s group successfully prevented Planned Parenthood Great Plains from opening an abortion facility in a heavily residential neighborhood with a nearby high school campus in Kansas City.  Operation Rescue aided with that project.

Urgent action is needed to block Planned Parenthood’s plans to open the new abortion facility.

“Now, we are asking for help once again to block the opening of a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Kansas City, which would prey on vulnerable pregnant women from surrounding states,” said Newman.  “Even if you do not live in Kansas, this abortion facility could affect your friends and loved ones in the Midwest.  That makes it everyone’s business.  Please take few minutes to contact the Wyandotte County Commissioners and the Kansas City Mayor and voice your opposition to the licensing of an abortion facility in their community.”
