First-Ever Bill Defunding Planned Parenthood Goes to Obama’s Desk

UPDATE: January 8, 2016, 12:00 pm Central – It is now being reported that Pres. Obama did in fact veto the legislation that would have defunded Planned Parenthood and repealed parts of Obamacare.

Passage shows that there is now a path to defunding with a Republican in the White House

By Cheryl Sullenger

Washington, DC – A first-ever bill defunding Planned Parenthood was successfully passed by both the House and the Senate this week and enrolled in a ceremony by Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday. That bill has now been sent to Pres. Barack Obama, who has vowed to veto it.

While Obama’s veto will ensure that no Federal funding will actually be stripped from Planned Parenthood, the vote was significant because for the first time the Republican-controlled Congress has proven that there is a path to passage that bypasses the 60-vote threshold in the Senate that has served as a roadblock to pro-life legislation in the past.

Should pro-life Republican be elected as President in November, the same process can be used in 2017 to finally strip over $500 million of Federal funding from Planned Parenthood.

Operation Rescue president Troy Newman wants the public to remember why Planned Parenthood doesn’t deserve one red cent of our tax money.

“Not only is Planned Parenthood the largest purveyor of abortion in the U.S., taking the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent children each year, but prima facie evidence now exists that Planned Parenthood is a corrupt criminal enterprise that should be prosecuted under the law,” said Newman.

Undercover summary videos released by the Center for Medical Progress over the summer months shows planned Parenthood abortionist’s cavalierly describing grisly partial birth abortion methods used as a means of procuring the most intact fetal organ specimens for sale. The videos also showed Planned Parenthood officials haggling with CMP actors in an attempt to get top dollar for each organ harvested from Planned Parenthood abortion facilities.

One Planned Parenthood abortionist, Mary Gatter, even joked that she wanted to make enough money off the sale of baby parts so she could but a Lamborghini, leaving no doubt that Planned Parenthood has illegally profited from the sale of aborted baby remains.

“The body parts scandal is only the tip of the iceberg in Planned Parenthood’s long history scandalous behavior,” said Newman. “This makes it completely unacceptable to continue funding it.”

Other examples of misbehavior by Planned Parenthood include ongoing cases involving billing fraud in Iowa, California, and elsewhere along with accusations of failing to report suspected child sex abuse.

In Kansas, the Planned Parenthood organization was charged with 107 criminal counts related to illegal late-term abortion and manufacturing evidence to cover up their crimes. That case was dismissed only because a corrupt official in the pro-abortion Attorney General’s office shredded the evidence against Planned Parenthood.

In Massachusetts, Planned Parenthood abortionist Roger Ian Hardy was forced to surrender his Massachusetts medical license in January 2014, after 18 witnesses came forward in 2004 to testify against him about his inappropriate sexual behavior not only with his patients, but also female members of his staff. This salacious scandal covered in technicolor-detail in a three-part expose published by the Boston Globe.

Planned Parenthood has also been involved in many instances of medical emergencies and malpractice cases involving horrifically botched abortions. For example, in 2014, Planned Parenthood of Illinois paid out $1.5 million to settle a wrongful death suit brought by the family of Tonya Reaves after Planned Parenthood’s abortionist Mandy Gittler tore a hole in Reaves’ uterus during a second trimester abortion, then failed to call an ambulance for 5 ½ hours as Reaves laid hemorrhaging internally from her fatal wounds.

Shockingly, Gittler continues to be employed by Planned Parenthood.

“We could go on and on about documented evidence we have in our possession related to Planned Parenthood’s dangerous and sometimes criminal conduct,” said Newman. “If any organization has earned being kicked off the public dole, it is Planned Parenthood, but it has been the result of public pressure that has motivated Congress to act. While it is disappointing that Congress could not stop Planned Parenthood funding this year, I look forward to the election of a Republican President in November so tax-funding of Planned Parenthood’s corrupt enterprise can finally end. Congress’ actions in passing the defunding legislation shows that cutting off public funds is not just wishful thinking. There is a way to get this done.”

Newman has endorsed the candidacy of pro-life champion Senator Ted Cruz for President.

Breaking: UNM Halts Abortion Rotation at Late-Term Abortion Facility But Continues to Break the Law

[Note correction at end of article]

By Tara Shaver

Albuquerque, NM- The ABQ Journal newspaper is reporting that the University of New Mexico, which is a publicly-funded institution, has partially cut ties with Southwestern Women’s Options, a late-term abortion facility owned by Texas abortionist Curtis Boyd, that conducts abortions through all nine months of pregnancy.

UNM has severed an agreement with SWO to provide abortion training for UNM medical students. However, it says it will continue to accept harvested aborted baby parts from this facility. Before UNM’s move to cut formal ties with SWO, it appeared that the university was providing staffing to the abortion facility in exchange for the fetal remains that it says it uses for “research.”

The problem with this body parts arrangement is that it is in violation of New Mexico law.

Protest ABQ obtained Curtis Boyd’s consent forms from 2012 and 2015 that states: “pregnancy tissue may be used in medical research.”

This clearly violates NM Statute Chapter 24 Section 6b, which states:

The Jonathan Spradling Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act. This statute forbids the use of aborted babies in medical research and goes further to exclude aborted babies as decedents (section D.) who are incapable of making an anatomical gift who can donate their organs and tissues for “transplantation, therapy, or education.”

For this reason, Protest ABQ filed a formal complaint in July 2015, with the New Mexico Attorney General seeking an investigation into the illegal use of aborted baby remains for research since the baby cannot consent to the donation. That complaint is still pending.

UNM Abortion Ties

For the past five years members of Protest ABQ have been exposing and protesting the University of New Mexico’s abortion agenda. The pro-life group exposed the fact that SWO is training UNM medical students through the Ryan Residency Abortion Training Program. In addition, UNM runs a free-standing abortion facility through the illegal use of taxpayer funds. Her work at the UNM-operated abortion facility has led to the promotion of UNM staff physician and abortionist Eve Espey to the position as Chair of the OBGYN Department.

“UNM is the heart of the abortion industry in the state, but perhaps that is beginning to change,” said Bud Shaver, Executive Director of Protest ABQ. “But UNM’s continued harvesting of aborted baby organs at Southwestern Women’s Options remains a huge issue since the law prohibits the use of aborted baby remains for research purposes.”

The University of New Mexico had been utilizing Curtis Boyd and other late-term abortionists to train residents and fellows in second trimester procedures. Through an on-site clinical rotation these procedures required students to dismember pre-born children in the womb and then extract their tiny bodies in pieces through the 25th week of pregnancy. UNM has had training agreements with Curtis Boyd going back at least to the 2011-2012 school year.

No Transparency or Accountability

On November 2, 2015, Protest ABQ submitted an Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) request in reference to fetal tissue contracts and agreements between UNM and Curtis Boyd’s abortion business. UNM responded with a letter informing Protest ABQ that no such documents were found.

UPDATE: We have learned that the documents showing the relationship between UNM and Boyd were actually obtained through the efforts of the New Mexico Alliance for Life and their legal counsel. (The Journal article was unclear as to how the documents were obtained. We apologize for any misunderstanding and congratulate NMAFL on providing this information to the public.)

This withholding of information from a legally submitted IPRA request is in violation of New Mexico’s public information laws.

“UNM is a publicly funded state institution, but like other leaders in the state, they feel no need to obey the laws and provide transparency about the abortion agenda they embrace and promote. This is a disgrace that will require legal action on our part,” stated Bud Shaver.

According to a 2015 training agreement between Curtis Boyd and UNM, Boyd describes abortion procedures beyond 20 weeks as causing “feticide” using a drug called digoxin. He specifies that after the procedure, the fetal tissue will then be given to UNM.

However, digoxin, a drug that essentially causes the baby in the womb to die from a heart attack, contaminates the tissue, making it unusable for medical research. This fact was publicized widely over the summer as the Center for Medical Progress released several videos that showed Planned Parenthood abortionists and representatives from biotech companies clearly discussing the topic of digoxin and how it taints the fetal tissue.

This has led to suspicions that Boyd may have lied about using digoxin and is instead using the now illegal partial-birth abortion procedure to obtain body parts that are suitable for medical research.

Procedures used by Curtis Boyd during the late-term abortion procedures that have resulted in the use of human remains for research must be investigated.

Rampant Complicity

“Members of Protest ABQ met with Martinez four years ago and laid out the case against UNM and Paul Roth, CEO of UNM Health Sciences Center, who heavily promotes abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Roth has been highly instrumental in pushing a pro-abortion agenda at UNM,” stated Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Founder of Protest ABQ. “Earlier this year we exposed an uncharacteristic donation made by Roth to New Mexico GOP Speaker of the House Don Tripp, which suspiciously occurred shortly after a closed door meeting between legislators and UNM officials about fetal tissue research and disposal.”

Protest ABQ leaders have met with the UNM Board of Regents President Jack Fortner about the UNM abortion agenda. Both Gov. Martinez and Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry are well aware of the tentacles of the abortion industry in New Mexico that extend from UNM. Nevertheless, Mayor Berry recently teamed up with abortionist Eve Espey on an initiative targeting high school teens for sex education and abortion.

“The Republican leadership in this state have done nothing but cooperate with and shelter UNM and the late-term abortion industry in New Mexico. Under Martinez and Berry’s watch, with their full knowledge, Roth and Espey have built up and expanded the abortion industry in the state through UNM,” stated Bud Shaver.

The bottom line is that while UNM is cutting ties with the local late-term abortion business, UNM still is in violation of the ban on aborted baby tissue use in research. In addition, any affiliation or use of University resources to promote abortion is strictly forbidden under Federal Law that bars tax money from funding abortion services.

The ban on using tax money for abortions is being blatantly violated at the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH), which is an abortion facility operated with the help of tax funds by UNM.

Protest ABQ calls on UNM to stop violating the law by halting the practice of harvesting aborted baby remains and closing down the UNMCRH abortion facility. This will restore the rule of law and do great good for the community of Albuquerque and for the lives of children who will be saved in the womb as a result.

Correction: An earlier version of this story indicated Gov. Martinez attended UNM. That was in error. Gov. Martinez attended University of Texas in El Paso for undergrad and got her law degree in Oklahoma.

Huge Pro-Life Victory! Senate Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood

Vote emphasized the importance of the 2016 Presidential Election

Washington, DC – Last night in a historic vote, the U.S. Senate passed a reconciliation bill that guts major portions of Obamacare and bars Planned Parenthood from receiving Federal tax dollars in Medicaid reimbursements. This would effectively defund Planned Parenthood to the tune of nearly $500 million each year. The final vote was 52-47.

“The pro-life movement, including Operation Rescue, has fought for years to halt public funding to the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. With this victory in the Senate, and guaranteed passage in the House, we have achieved an unprecedented political victory!” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “The majority of the American people do not support doling out millions of our hard-earned tax dollars to Planned Parenthood, and with this vote, the will of the people has been heard. Planned Parenthood is a private organization that is fully capable of funding itself. It certainly does not need to drain public funds that can be better used elsewhere to help women with legitimate medical services.”

Operation Rescue understands that the bill will be vetoed by President Barack Obama, a radical abortion supporter. However, if a Republican President is elected next November, there is now every confidence that a similar bill will finally accomplish the defunding goal. This makes the next presidential election of critical importance for those who oppose tax funding of abortion businesses or abortion itself.

Newman has endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz for President, who was a strong proponent of the defunding measure and provided inspiring leadership on this issue.

Operation Rescue is grateful to all the Senators who were instrumental in this successful vote, including GOP leadership that came through on their promise to bring the defunding of Planned Parenthood to the floor for a vote.

Photos Show Prison Guards Escorting Crying Female Inmate into Planned Parenthood

By Cheryl Sullenger

Columbia, South Carolina – Two correctional officers with the South Carolina Department of Corrections were photographed on May 30, 2015, escorting an obviously distraught female inmate into the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Columbia, South Carolina.

The handcuffed woman was wearing tan prison attire as she was accompanied into the Planned Parenthood facility – presumably for an abortion — by two uniformed prison guards. She was visibly upset and wiped away a tear as she entered Planned Parenthood.

It is doubtful that the prisoner was at Planned Parenthood for anything other than abortion since prisons have infirmaries that handle routine gynecological care and treatment. Her apparent emotional state also gives rise to concerns that she may have been pressured or coerced into an abortion.

After about two hours, the guards emerged from Planned Parenthood and drove the prisoner away in a state owned mini-van.

“It is tragic that the State of South Carolina is paying to transport women to Planned Parenthood,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “We wonder if the State of South Carolina actually paid for the abortion as well.”

Newman stated that with the ongoing scandal based on videos released by the Center for Medical Progress revealing Planned Parenthood’s illegal sale of aborted baby remains, it is inappropriate state tax money to be used to financially benefit Planned Parenthood in any way.

“With Planned Parenthood under criminal investigation in at least 10 states and a Congressional investigation under way, we urge every state to take measures to halt taxpayer dollars from flowing to Planned Parenthood’s coffers,” said Newman. “Is the Columbia Planned Parenthood abortion clinic involved in the illegal sale of aborted baby parts? Someone should investigate and find out.”

State Vehicle Leaving -Inmate-captThis news comes on the heels of threats from the Obama Administration’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a unit of HHS, warning Alabama and Louisiana that their efforts to strip tax funding from the embattled abortion giant could run afoul of Federal law. However, this attempt at intimidation is unfounded since Federal law provides that contracts for funding can be legally cancelled with a 30-day notice.

“When the Federal government issues threats in order to protect Planned Parenthood’s money stream, it just shows how deeply Planned Parenthood’s tentacles of corruption have embedded themselves at the highest levels,” said Newman. “In spite of the bullying from the Obama Administration, we urge South Carolina to joint with Alabama, Louisiana, and New Hampshire in preventing Planned Parenthood from profiting at the expense the American taxpayer, and that includes expending state money to transport inmates for abortions.”

Tax Funded Abortions on the Rise in New Mexico While Overall Abortions on the Decline

By Tara Shaver

Albuquerque, NM — Since 2008, New Mexico’s abortion rate has been on a steady decline. This is great news in a state where abortions are performed through all nine months of pregnancy without restriction. However, that news is tempered by the fact that abortions funded by tax dollars are on the rise.

According to New Mexico vital statistics, 3,134 abortions were performed in 2012, a significant decrease of 2,002 abortions from 2008 figures when 5,136 abortions were performed. This represents a 39 percent decrease in abortions over a five-year period.

This overall reduction in abortion can be attributed to public outreach through ministries like Project Defending Life, whose efforts include prayer and protests at local abortion clinics and serving women when they choose not to abort. Also, education has played a big role in decreasing abortion at a city level in Albuquerque, home to 3 of the 5 remaining abortion clinics in the state, through church outreach and a steady stream of local media coverage of abortion injuries and the lack of clinical oversight.

“When the community at large knows how precarious abortions are and when women themselves know the risks involved, women choose not to pursue an abortion. Since New Mexico has adopted no common-sense legislation regarding abortion, all of the successes must be attributed to those who faithfully work day in and day out to end abortions one woman and child at a time,” stated Bud Shaver, Executive Director of Protest ABQ.

While overall abortion numbers have decreased, tax funded abortions through New Mexico Medicaid saw a 20 percent increase over the previous year’s numbers. New Mexico is one of 15 states to fully fund abortions, not using any federal funds but state funds. This forces everyday citizens to foot the bill for dangerous and deadly abortions.

In 2013, 811 abortions were billed to the state, costing taxpayers $160,007.51.

The largest portion of these abortions was performed at the state’s late term abortion clinic, Southwestern Women’s Options where the very latest of abortions are done. SWO employs Susan Robinson and Shelley Sella who reside in California; their net income in 2013 from New Mexico Medicaid was $74,770.78 for performing 335 abortions.

The University of New Mexico performed 126 Medicaid funded abortions in 2013, which cost taxpayers $24,729.65.

Protest ABQ has prepared the chart that details the amounts paid to abortion providers in New Mexico for abortions in 2013.

Each year that goes by without any action from the state’s legislature and Governor, out-of-state abortionists will continue to bilk New Mexico taxpayers while evading their own state’s laws that prohibit the very abortion procedures that are so profitable for them in New Mexico. This is just another way New Mexico has become the “go to” place for extremely late abortions, drawing not only out-of-state abortionists but also women seeking abortions beyond the legal limits in their home states.

This report is being published one week after members of Protest ABQ met with Governor Susana Martinez, once again urging her to reign in the out of control and unregulated abortion industry that is costing tax payers big money in New Mexico.

Protest ABQ is leading the charge to protect life and is calling on pro-life groups to join us for a National Call to Action involving national protests against abortion, culminating with a National Strike on January 22, 2015.

“We need to stand up and ‘protest’ to bring about the end of pre-born child killing. . .peacefully but protest! Until all those who oppose pre-born child killing are willing to go into the streets in ‘protest’ of what we know is wrong and unless we are willing to call and enact a ‘national strike’ to end the child killing, this will all remain legal,” stated Fr. Stephen Imbarrato Founder of Protest ABQ.
Note: The video in this story was made in 2011 and revealed at that time that New Mexico taxpayers were being forced to foot the bill for expensive late-term abortions on babies with Down Syndrome. This practice not only continues today, but is on the increase.
