Washington, DC – In a 6-3 decision handed down on June 26, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that South Carolina can deny Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from receiving Medicaid funding.
Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic was filed by PPSA after the South Carolina governor issued an executive order terminating Medicaid funding for any healthcare businesses that provide abortions. The order was based on South Carolina state laws that explicitly bar any state funds for family planning to be used towards abortion.
Despite its constant claim of providing “other services,” Planned Parenthood’s own financial records for 2023-24 show that abortion services have increased 23% since 2013 while every other service remains in decline.
“Abortion is Planned Parenthood’s one and only cash cow,” says Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, “constantly subsidized by American taxpayers who are finally taking notice of the scandals, abuse, negligence, and even patient deaths that we have been reporting on for decades.”
In March, just weeks before the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the South Carolina case, Operation Rescue broke the story of Lexi Arguello, an 18-year-old Colorado girl who tragically died when Planned Parenthood reportedly delayed care after she developed a serious, complex complication. The story made national news.
One month previous, the New York Times also published a shocking exposé covering terrible working conditions, the misuse of funds, and rampant lawsuits against the crumbling abortion giant.
Newman adds, “The opinion handed down from SCOTUS today just affirms the opinion of the American people: no one needs Planned Parenthood. The days of this criminal enterprise demanding taxpayer money and giving the mafia shakedown to anyone who tries to oppose them are coming to an end. Americans deserve better. Lexi deserved better. Operation Rescue applauds today’s SCOTUS opinion and we rededicate ourselves to exposing the terrible underbelly of the abortion industry. Exposing the truth changes minds and saves lives.”
