An Urgent National Call for Public Prayer and Fasting for the confirmation hearings of Judge John Roberts at the United States Supreme Court

Schedule of Events for September 4 – 12, 2005

“Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation ; assemble the aged; gather the children”
~Joel 2:15-16

National Christian leaders and organizations are calling for a time of solemn assembly, public prayer and fasting at the United States Supreme Court for the confirmation hearings of Judge John Roberts. Operation Rescue will join the Washington-based groups National Clergy Council, the Christian Defense Coalition, and the National Pro-life Action Center and other national organizations speaking out on behalf of pre-born babies.
The composition of the Supreme Court is one of the most critical issues facing our nation today. The next person serving on the court will determine its direction for the next 30 years. Those decisions will impact our children and their children for generations to come.
Remember, it was the Supreme Court that removed prayer and Bible reading from our public schools; decriminalized abortion that resulted in the deaths of 46,000,000 innocent children. And, the Supreme Court overturned a ban on Partial Birth Abortion and removed the 10 Commandments from public courtrooms.
In light of this, it is imperative that the faith community passionately seeks God for His mercy, direction and guidance. We are in a desperate hour and we desperately need God’s favor. Our attitude must be the same as the prophet Daniel when he prayed;
“Incline your ear, O my God, and hear. Open your eyes and look at our desolation and the city that bears your name. We do no present our supplication before you on the ground of our righteousness, but on the ground of your great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, Listen and act and do not delay!”
~Daniel 9:18 -19.

It is critical that we have men and women on the Supreme Court that will honor God and the Constitution, protect the dignity of all life, safeguard the sanctity of marriage and respect religious freedom and liberty in the public square.

So as the prophet Joel did centuries ago, we are sounding a trumpet for the church and all people of good will to come to Washington, D.C. for an urgent time of prayer and fasting. We would ask that you consider joining us for at least one day. The call to prayer and fasting will begin with a rally and prayer vigil at the Supreme Court on Sunday, September 4th, at 3:00 P.M. with national Christian and political leaders. We will continue in prayer until September 12 or until the confirmation hearings end.
We will be specifically asking for God to guide and direct the Judiciary Committee and give Judge Roberts a fair and balanced hearing. And, we will be crying out for God to bless our nation and give us a judge that will rule “in the fear and knowledge of the Lord.”
All prayer events will take place on the public sidewalk in front of the United States Supreme Court.
