Washington, DC – With a vote on the confirmation of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to Health and Human Services Secretary looming on Tuesday, Operation Rescue raises new questions about whether minorities, especially Blacks, will be sent to the back of her health care bus.
While Sebelius’ radical support for abortion has been widely discussed, and is responsible for the delay in her confirmation vote before the full Senate, little has been said how that radical ideology will affect minorities that are disproportionately targeted for abortion by her cronies.
In 2006, Sebelius ran a deceptive campaign television ad that showed her at the wheel of a school bus, taking credit for an increase in school funding – credit that legislators said did not belong to her. Amid the controversy, were questions about the fact that there were no minority children in Sebelius’ school bus. When asked where the minority kids were, one of Sebelius’ aides replied that they were seated at the back of the bus.
“This shocking lack of sensitivity springs from Sebelius’ deeply held abortion ideology,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “There is no doubt that there is a racist overtone at our nation’s abortion clinics. In this nation Blacks are disproportionately targeted for abortion by Planned Parenthood and others. While Blacks account for 17% of all live births, they account for 36% of all abortions. Some abortionists target Hispanic neighborhoods almost exclusively.”
It is an ideology that has its roots in the eugenics movement and was popularized by Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. Sanger advocated using birth control, sterilization, and abortion to weed out “the problem of the dependent, delinquent and defective elements in modern society.” For Sanger, those populations included blacks, who are now speaking out against what they call “black genocide.”
Planned Parenthood organizations recently came under fire for encouraging telephone donations from callers who wanted to pay for abortions on black babies.
So cozy is Sebelius’ relationship with Planned Parenthood that the Kansas chapter threw her a raucous birthday party in 2007, which she attended – while that organization was under investigation by the District Attorney’s office. It was later charged with 107 criminal counts of illegal abortions and false reporting that are still pending.
“Will minorities continue to be unduly targeted for abortion if Sebelius is confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services? I don’t think we can afford to find out the answer to that question,” said Newman. “This is another urgent reason to reject Sebelius as HHS Secretary.”
