Three Florida Clinics Resume Abortions, Two Remain Closed
Orlando, FL — The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration has lifted its ban on abortions at three Florida abortion mills operated by James Pendergraft, whose medical license was suspended earlier this month.
“This is a big mistake,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Pendergraft has already exhibited an extreme disregard for the law. By reopening three of his abortion mills, the State of Florida is placing women and their pre-born children at grave risk.”
Allowed to reopen as of last Wednesday are abortion mills in Ft. Lauderdale, Ocala, and Tampa. While a spokesperson for Pendergraft says that these mills will continue with other abortionists, Operation Rescue says that will not make much difference.
“Pendergraft seems to think he is above the law, and does not admit to this day that he did anything wrong by doing illegal abortions. Why should we believe that he will abstain from continuing to do illegal abortions if the law could not constrain him in the past?” said Newman. “Besides, Pendergraft’s other abortionist employees are no better than he is. Shoddy abortions are the rule and not the exception at those mills.”
The State of Florida has continued the ban on abortions at Pendergraft’s two Orlando locations, including the Orlando Women’s Center and the EPOC mill, where the state says Pendergraft committed illegal late-term abortions in 2004 and 2005.
“There is no doubt that Pendergraft and his cohorts are a danger to the public. Operation Rescue calls on Florida authorities to revoke Pendergraft’s medical license and permanently close all five of his abortion mills,” said Newman.
Action Alert!
Please contact the Agency for Health Care Administration, Hospital and Outpatient Services Unit and ask them to permanently close all 5 Pendergraft mills and revoke Pendergraft’s license. He has proved that he cannot be trusted to follow the law.
