Washington, DC — On Saturday evening, the Senate voted 60-39 to open debate on their version of the health care bill that stripped away the House provision that would have banned the tax funding of abortions. The Senate version now being considered would open the floodgates on the public funding of abortion.
“The voice of the American people was not heard on the Senate floor, but we will be heard before this debate is over,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
“The vast majority of Americans oppose tax funding for abortions. With the 2010 elections just around the corner, politicians must realize that opposition to abortion and tax funding of abortion are deeply held convictions that voters will express at the ballot box. Elected officials who ignore the will of the people by supporting efforts to allow tax money to be used to take innocent lives and bail out a failing abortion industry cannot expect to receive the votes of their constituents that they ignored and betrayed.”
“There is still a long way to go before the massive health care bill can become law,” Newman continued. “We will continue to expose and oppose the anti-life measures that are being forced upon the unwilling American public.”
