Washington, DC — Today the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted 78-22 to confirm John Roberts, a 50-year-old U.S. Appeals Court judge, as the successor to the late Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, who died earlier this month.
Rehnquist was the sole survivor of the Roe vs. Wade court and was a vocal opponent of Roe, a decision he voted against in 1973.
Operation Rescue encourages Chief Justice John Roberts to be a man of character and principal and fulfill the vision and dreams of his predecessor, William Rehnquist, by restoring the protections of legal personhood to the pre-born.
“Rehnquist understood that a faithful interpretation of the Constitution would produce an abortion-free America. Today, his replacement, John Roberts, has been given a mandate to stand true to the original intent of the Founding Fathers by restoring the rights of personhood to pre-born children — ending abortion in America.”
-Troy Newman, President, Operation Rescue
“We pray for Chief Justice Roberts to have the strength of character to be faithful to the Constitution, faithful to the innocent children yet to be conceived, and faithful to his faith by restoring legal protections to the pre-born and thus begin to heal the emotional and cultural devastation that 32 years of abortion on demand has wrought in our nation.”
