Baton Rouge, Louisiana — Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr. MD (R-LA) is seeking the release of information related to the Delta Abortion Clinic of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Delta Abortion Clinic chain has a long and sordid history of medical corruption. Requested documents are related to allegations that the abortion clinic is routinely falsifying documents.
Rep. Boustany has written several letters about the Delta Abortion Clinic to Bruce Greenstein, head of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Operation Rescue obtained a copy of his most recent letter of December 12, 2012. There has been no response yet.
Rep. Boustany’s letter alleged that the Delta Abortion Clinic is pre-filling forms for submission to the Louisiana Department of Health. The forms are pre-filled before the actual abortion takes place. Dr. Boustany requested statistical information on the doctors who may be falsifying this information, and expressed concerns that this practice can lead to the cover-up of fathers committing statutory rape.
Rep. Boustany is also a medical doctor and understands the importance of medical facilities complying with the law and the standard of care.
The Delta Abortion Clinic chain has an almost unbelievable record of medical corruption and endangering the public health. This includes the deaths of two expectant mothers, falsifying patient records, 300 HIPAA violations, 7 felonies, a botched abortion resulting in the hysterectomy of the mother, and dispensing medical drugs illegally. (See Delta’s profile page at AbortionDocs.org.)
In 1990, the Associated Press reported that a federal judge fined the Delta Abortion Clinic $337,000.00 for dispensing medical drugs illegally. Abortionists there were not registered to prescribe and dispense drugs at that location.
In addition, the Delta Abortion Clinic once employed Eileen O’Neill who went on to work for accused murder Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia and was arrested with him on several counts related illegal abortions and the killing of infants born alive during late-term abortions. Gosnell has been charged with eight counts of murder in connection with the death seven newborns and of an expectant mother at his Philadelphia abortion mill.
Operation Rescue filed a complaint against Delta Abortion Clinic abortionist Mary Frances Gardner with the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners in 2011. The complaint was filed on behalf of a patient whose abortion was botched at Delta. The patient prefers to remain anonymous.
The Delta abortionist prescribed medical drugs to poison her pre-term infant to death. Complications arose, and ultimately the expectant mother had to undergo a hysterectomy after being hospitalized for the life-threatening complications of the abortion.
Operation Rescue also sent a letter to Governor Bobby Jindal asking him to investigate the pre-filled forms at the Delta Abortion Clinic. Bobby Jindal is the former Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
Cheryl Sullenger, Senior Policy Advisor at Operation Rescue, said, “It is a very serious thing to accuse the government of corruption and helping cover-up abortion abuses, but the evidence is pretty clear and speaks for itself. We are hoping that the Board of Examiners and Governor Jindal are more responsive.”
She continued, “Louisiana authorities must hold Gardner accountable for her atrocious behavior, expose and eliminate any governmental cover-up or corruption inside its ranks, and work with the DHH to close this dangerous abortion clinic for good.”
Under 2010 Louisiana state law, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has the power to close the Delta Abortion Clinic right now. Operation Rescue urges concerned pro-lifers to call Governor Jindal and ask him to close the Delta Abortion Clinic under existing state laws. His phone number is: 225-342-7015. You can also contact the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals at 225-342-9500.
