Wichita, KS — Operation Rescue’s national headquarters was attacked on December 7 by two perpetrators who disabled part of Operation Rescue’s security system and stole a camera that was pointed at the back entrance of the office.
“We called the police and were concerned when the officer asked, ‘Mr. Newman, do you have any enemies? Anyone who really doesn’t like you and wants to hurt you?’’ said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “He indicated that this kind of thing usually means that someone is intending to commit further mayhem. While our trust is in God for whatever happens, we want to do all we can to make sure our staff is safe and our ability to continue our work is not impeded.”
This is the third time Operation Rescue’s security cameras have been vandalized. There have been several other attacks on the office have caused minor damage. In addition, the homes of Operation Rescue staff members have also been the subject of vandalism.
Operation Rescue’s office is located in a former abortion clinic that OR bought and closed in 2006.
“We know there are those out there who would like to see us stop our work that has been so effective at closing abortion clinics and saving lives. We have received literally hundreds of death threats. One man who threatened us is now serving a prison sentence in New York, so we take our security very seriously,” said Newman.
Operation Rescue is seeking to raise funds for a better security system with a higher image resolution so that police can better indentify vandals or other suspicious people when needed. The new system would cost approximately $4,700.
