Operation Rescue Applauds Trump’s Nomination of Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump announced this evening that he has nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Gorsuch will fill the vacancy left by the untimely death last year of conservative champion Justice Antonin Scalia.

“We want to express our thanks to President Trump for nominating a man of such stellar quality as Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “One of the reasons I endorsed Trump for president was because of the strong promises he made to pro-life leaders. Now, after less than two weeks in office, he is keeping those promises, and we are very encouraged. He has proved himself to be a man of his word.”

Judge Gorsuch has impeccable academic credentials, holding an undergraduate degree from Columbia University, and law degrees from Harvard and Oxford.

He was appointed to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit by former President George W. Bush and was easily confirmed on a voice vote. This reflects on how highly respected he is as jurist on both sides of the aisle.

While he has not ruled on abortion cases, he is known to hold an originalist view of the law, interpreting it in light of the original meaning of the Constitution.

In 2006, Gorsuch penned a book titled The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia, in which he stated, “all human beings are intrinsically valuable and the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong.”

Gorsuch ruled in favor of religious liberty by ruling against the Obamacare mandate that forced employers with deeply held religious views, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor and Hobby Lobby, to pay for insurance coverage that included certain contraceptives. He noted that the mandate would force those with religious objections to “underwrite payments for drugs or devices that can have the effect of destroying a fertilized human egg.”

“We look forward to speedy hearings on Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, and urge the Senate to expedite his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court,” said Newman.

As far as I can tell Gorsuch’s views on Roe v. Wade are unknown. The Democrats openly proclaim they will only appoint pro-choice justices, while the GOP always talks out of both sides of its mouth. If Trump is to introduce genuine change he should appoint a judge who is unequivocally pro-life and unequivocally in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. Hints are no longer credible. If this means a big fight, better that than acquiescence.

  • You really think that Trump never bothered to ask him about Roe, when his promise was to appoint a pro-life judge? Or maybe you think there is some grand conspiracy where Trump, Pence, and the solid pro-life advisors involved in the vetting process (including one who clerked for Scalia) are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. This is a new day and a new president. It’s time to stop living in the past where we were betrayed at every turn, and live in today were we actually have a man of his word in the White House.

Yes, I do think the left engages in conspiratorial behavior within the pro-life movement. Reagan lied about his pro-life intentions. In 1994 there was a plot to remove the pro-life plank from the GOP platform, covertly joined by pro-lifers Ralph Reed and William Bennett. Formerly pro-life columnists such as Cal Thomas and Tom Sowell wrote columns arguing in favor of removing the plank, likely due to financial threats from “the big donors” whose contributions paid Sowell’s salary at Heritage Foundation and had veto power over Thomas’s career as a columnist. Trump formerly ran as pro-choice, so his pro-life convictions are not deep. If Gorsuch believes Roe v Wade was wrongly decided he should say so and remove all doubt. We deserve no less than OPEN and UNAPOLOGETIC advocacy, and if that is not a practical option we should not yet declare a “new day” but at most a glimmer of what might be daylight.

Hopefully he will be asked point blank if he thinks Roe was correctly decided AND if not, should the PRECEDENT be honored. A piece I read said that Gorsuch believed in respecting precedent, which gives him an easy excuse not to overturn Roe. As for Trump he doesn’t give a f* and is hoping to finesse the issue. Surely you realize OR is infiltrated. If you don’t you are too naïve for politics.

od Playing fast and loose with the Truth, has always been how politics’s is done in the USA. The cost in lives and treasure and spiritual life to this country cannot be over stated. Trump can play his cards, but the Holy God hat a Trump card too. It will trump any card these can come up with. The Command of God is LIFE Eternal. There is no trump card that can stop it. Humanity will not be able to procreate in Heaven as we are like unto angels. Abortion will end, forever when time itself will end. Pro choice loses everything.
