Hundreds Form ‘Cross For Life’ At Culmination of Summer of Mercy 2.0

Germantown, MD – Over 600 pro-life activists wearing red T-shirts converged on the corner of Wisteria and Executive Park Circle in Germantown Sunday to form a “Cross for Life” near LeRoy Carhart’s late-term abortion clinic for the culminating event of the Summer of Mercy 2.0.

Addressing a “sea of red,” David Bereit of 40 Days for Life encouraged the crowd, which then spread out down the streets of Germantown to hold vigil for the pre-born. In addition to wearing red, participants held red signs that read “Prayer for the Protection of Life.”

“Folks from all walks of life and all ages turned out to pray for an end to abortion in Germantown and the nation, and to testify of the redemptive power of Christ,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, one of the event organizers. “It was an awesome witness to the community.”

For the nine days of the Summer of Mercy event, no abortions were done at Germantown Reproductive Health Services, the late-term abortion clinic where Carhart works.

He is currently under investigation in Maryland for misrepresenting facts on his Maryland medical license application. He is also under criminal investigation in his home state of Nebraska, where former employees filed affidavits about illegal and unsafe practices they witnessed while in Carhart’s employment.

Carhart slipped into town Sunday evening under the cover of darkness and quietly began abortions in the middle of the night and continued into Monday morning. Eleven abortions were known to be on his schedule as pro-life activists prayed and offered practical help to abortion-bound women.

“The people of Maryland are now activated and committed to this fight over the long haul,” said Newman. “For nine days no babies died in Germantown because men and women of conscience rose up to stand publicly against the shedding of innocent blood. We have faith that the prayers for an end to abortion lifted during the Summer of Mercy 2.0 will soon be answered. While this event is now over, the efforts to halt Carhart’s grisly late-term abortion business are just beginning.”

Summer of Mercy 2.0 Will Build Human “Cross 4 Life” on Sunday

New videos and photos of the Summer of Mercy 2.0 abortion protests are now available

Germantown, Maryland – Participants in the Summer of Mercy 2.0 will form a human “Cross 4 Life” near LeRoy Carhart’s late-term abortion clinic in Germantown, Maryland, on Sunday, August 7, at 2:00 PM, to draw attention to the tragedy of abortion and the redemptive power of Christ.

Participants will wear red t-shirts and line the streets intersecting Wisteria & Executive Park Circle where the late-term abortion clinic is located. There are plans to photograph the human cross from the air.

“If you haven’t made it to Germantown yet for the Summer of Mercy, you will certainly want to be part of this exciting event,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “The symbolism is powerful. The red shirts speak of the shedding of innocent blood, but also of the redemptive power of Christ’s sacrifice, which can forgive any sin and bring new life and healing to the repentant. The Cross 4 Life will be a compelling testimony to the Germantown Community and to the nation.”

The speaker for Sunday’s Rally will be the nationally-known leader of 40 Days for Life, David Bereit.

Saturday’s Rally will feature Pastor Josh Harris, Sr Pastor Covenant Life Church.

Those attending the Summer of Mercy 2.0 tonight will hear from special speaker Kelly Stauffer, Silent No More Awareness and former Tiller Patient who shared her testimony about her horrific late-term abortion ordeal on The O’Reilly Factor.

New video and photos are now available from the Summer of Mercy 2.0.

Video is now available online of several SOM event speakers, including Fr. Frank Pavone, Troy Newman, Joe Scheidler, and Michael Martelli. You will not want to miss these inspirational and encouraging messages!

Also available is the testimony from Keisha, a woman who was scheduled for a late-term abortion but changed her mind due to pro-life sidewalk counselors. Keisha’s testimony directly exposed the lie Carhart has been promoting in the news media that he only does late-term abortions in cases of severe fetal anomaly. On July 22, 2011, Keisha gave birth to a healthy baby daughter named Kayden. In fact, sidewalk counseling organizer Dr. Grace Morrison, who initially reached out to Keisha, says that of the 25 women she has personally spoken to who were scheduled for late-term abortions, only one was carrying a baby with a negative pre-natal diagnosis. Shockingly, Carhart responded by attacking Keisha in the news by calling her a “plant” and accusing her of lying. View Keisha’s testimony below.

First-Time Pro-life Activists Help Keep Late-term Abortion Mill Closed

At mid-point of the Summer of Mercy 2.0, organizers are excited to see new faces joining the movement to stop abortion

Germantown, MD – Organizers for the Summer of Mercy are experiencing a phenomenon they did not expect. An estimated three-quarters of the participants of the Summer of Mercy 2.0 are residents of the Germantown area who have never participated in pro-life street activism prior to this week.

“We are really encouraged by the participation from the local Churches. Men and women who have never stood outside an abortion clinic before are bringing their families to the streets to stand for life,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “It is great to see so many new people being brought into the movement and activated.”

Summer of Mercy 2.0 participants gather outside LeRoy Carhart’s late-term abortion clinic in Germantown, Maryland, three times a day at 8:00 AM, noon, and 7 PM for formal prayer and worship, and to hear from nationally known speakers. Smaller groups maintain vigil throughout the day.

So far, the event has closed down Carhart’s abortion operation for the week. The leadership team made the decision yesterday to extend the event through Monday when late-term abortions are expected to resume.

“We know as long as Christians continue stand in public testimony, lives will be saved and eventually this clinic will eventually close for good,” said Newman.

A petition to Maryland authorities is also being circulated asking them to investigate and close Carhart’s late-term abortion business. So far in the event, 500 new signatures have been added with hundreds more expected by the end of the week.

“We are seeing a strong base of support being raised up to keep the pressure on here in Germantown long after the Summer of Mercy event formally ends,” said Newman. “If Carhart and his cohorts think they can hide out for a week, then have business as usual come Monday morning, they underestimate the resolve of the good people of Maryland.”

Pro-Life Activities Extended at Summer of Mercy 2.0 as Late-Term Abortionist Carhart’s Doors Remain Closed

Germantown, MD — In response to Leroy Carhart closing his late-term abortion clinic for one week, the Summer of Mercy 2.0 leadership team has confirmed that prayer and public witness will continue on Monday, August 8 in front of Carhart’s clinic in Germantown. In addition, the team is considering an extension of the activities through the week of August 8.

Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue said, “As men and women of faith, we are compelled to remain at our post. We will stay in Germantown begging for God’s mercy, until the killing ends for good.

Summer of Mercy 2.0 participants rejoice that there will be no killing of innocent children and diminishing of women in Germantown this week, and are prayerful that the mercy will continue.

“We have been saying since December that we will not tolerate Maryland becoming the late-term abortion capital of the world. The closing of Carhart’s clinic this week is a victory and a gift from God that we will build upon. We do believe that prayer can end abortion in Maryland and America, and this week is a definitive confirmation that it can, and it will,” said Michael Martelli of the Maryland Coalition for Life.

Danielle Versluys of Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust states, “Having come from California to join the Summer of Mercy, I am incredibly encouraged and excited to see people of all ages from all over the United States rally around the people of Maryland in their effort to see Carhart’s scourge lifted from their state. By closing down Carhart’s business for the week, God has answered the prayers of faithful, loving people who care for the women and children of their community. I am hopeful that this victory will carry into next week, next month, and next year, and that Carhart will no longer perform abortions in Germantown or any other city across our country.”
