1991 was the year I began being involved in helping to save babies, mostly by counseling young women outside abortion clinics. It was very important to me and the others who volunteered w me to help the young women who were coming for abortions, as well as saving their babies from death.

That we help the young women as much as we help the babies is something that those who are for abortion won’t admit. I don’t know if pro-aborts are uninformed of this or just lie about it, but they constantly argue its something we never do. That’s ludicrous. After speaking to a girl in front of an abortion mill and letting her know an abortion would take the life of her child, and that she’d regret it for the rest of her life, we told her where she could get help as well. The other counselors told her where she could get help throughout her pregnancy, during the the delivery, and after deliver — for both her and her baby.

I’m so grateful to God and to those who have worked tirelessly that the number of abortions has dropped. In 1991 we sometimes felt overwhelmed, and wondered at times if the abortion rate would ever drop. We never felt hopeless — but some days it was hard wondering how much good we were really doing in ending abortion in the long run. Yet each baby was so important and precious to us that we were willing to stand in front of the clinic praying and talking to young girls — for hours and hours at a time, day after day, week after week, year after year. Each baby that escaped execution was enough to keep us going. Each mom able to escape the lifetime heartbreak of knowing she had procured an abortion kept us going as well. So we went on for years.

I haven’t been able to go out to the abortuaries for about five years, and haven’t kept up completely on the news, so when I read last night in your article that more than two-thirds of the abortuaries in the US have closed since I began in the pro-life movement in 1991, I was thrilled beyond belief. To think that less babies are dying makes me very happy.

I believe its no longer popular in this country to be an abortionist. And an abortionist is finding it less and less of an attractive job in so many ways. More young women are keeping their babies as well, instead of killing them. No doubt some are using birth control (which of course I don’t agree with) but this still can’t account for the rate of the closing of the clinics. A lot are getting pregnant and having their babies. And some girls are no longer getting pregnant because they’re learning they want to wait for marriage — they’re learning abstanance and to have self-esteem.

That’s where I think we should go next. We should concentrate even harder on helping these girls / young women, letting them know that they don’t need to depend on a guy to fulfill their needs. That they don’t need sexual love before marriage to complete them. That there’s more to life. That they can concentrate on other things instead — like preparing for their future. This is such an exciting time in a young person’s life, and there are so many fun things to do and so many fun things to learn and prepare for!

We can tell them they don’t have to follow the crowd. We can help them build their self-esteem. We can help them actively work on plans for their future so they’ll have something to focus on — perhaps they won’t want to focus as much on running to be in a heavy relationship w a guy. We can ask them, what would YOU like to do in your life? We can empower them! We can tell them they are important human beings, important girls, and that they need to tell
a guy that they’re important enough that they have to be waited for if he wants them! We can do lots of things. The possibilities are endless!

We can help them decide on a job, training or college. They can then look for marriage if its their desire, and get married and have children when they’re ready. If a young woman does this, she’ll be with a man who’ll actually help take care of her, and their children. He’ll have a vested interest in her and her child if she becomes pregnant — instead of throwing $550 at the mother of his child, and asking her to go kill their child in an abortuary. We can explain to her this is the BETTER way to go — bc abortion results in such sorrow for the young woman, and in death for her child.
