Operation Rescue Office Attacked On Thanksgiving Day

Emergency help needed for increased security

Wichita, KS — Operation Rescue’s national office in Wichita, Kansas, was broken into on Thanksgiving Day. OR’s office manager, Brenna Sullenger, received notification shortly before 1 PM from the security company that an alarm had been activated and that police had been dispatched.

Upon arriving at the office, Brenna found police on the scene. The perpetrator had apparently kicked in the door of the office and then fled when the alarms sounded. Although the door was so badly damaged it must be replaced, it did not appear that anything had been stolen from the office. A police report has been filed.

In addition, Operation Rescue’s website was down on Friday morning. An investigation is in progress to determine if this was a cyber-attack on the group.

Currently Operation Rescue’s office is temporarily located in a trailer until renovations can be completed on the new office space purchased earlier this year in a building that was formerly an abortion clinic.

“We believe that the new space will be a more secure headquarters for us, but we are still raising money for the renovations,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We don’t expect to be in our new building before spring. In the meantime, we must be prepared for attacks on our office and staff to continue or even increase as we get closer to our January event.”

Less than a month ago, the home of Kansans for Truth In Politics chairperson, Cheryl Sullenger was the target of an egg attack. Cheryl is also an Operation Rescue staff member. That was the second such attack on her home.

Operation Rescue is asking for emergency donations to help buy additional security equipment for their office, not only for the security of the property, but also for the safety missionary staff members that must work there.

“While property can be replaced, our primary concern is the safety of our staff members. If someone will kick in our front door in broad daylight, there is no telling what they will do next,” said Newman. “We trust in God’s protection, but we also need to be responsible to do all we can to insure everyone’s safety.”

The Truth Truck Creates a Stir at the “Last Abortion Clinic”

Jackson, Mississippi — Residents and city officials hardly knew what to think as the Truth Truck arrived in Jackson to participate in a prayer vigil outside the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi.

The Truth Truck parked directly across the street from the Jackson Women’s Health Organization, an abortion mill featured in a recent PBS documentary that discussed the success of the pro-life movement at closing abortion mills across the nation.

Curious residents came out from businesses and stopped along the street to watch as a number of Jackson police cruisers blocked the street and created a scene as they attempted to determine if the Truth Truck was violating any laws.

“They told us we needed a permit,” said Operation Rescue missionary Keith Mason. “But when we called their bluff on that, they finally left.”

The prayer vigil was organized by a Louisiana Catholic group led by Rich Mahoney, who travels the country conducting prayer events at abortion mills.

While in Jackson, Mason happened upon a street preacher who was being confronted by police. “They told him he needed a permit, too,” said Mason who offered to help the street preacher find out what the city codes were. The two visited a city official who told them that he would not grant a permit for the open-air preaching of God’s Word, because it would be “noisy” and would probably “bother’ some people. Mason put the street preacher in contact with legal counsel who are considering filing a suit against the city.

OR’s Billboard Survives Fire

On the trip back to Wichita, the Truth Truck passed Operation Rescue’s pro-life billboard along the I-35 outside Norman, Oklahoma, the perfect location for a pro-life message. Because late-term abortions have been dramatically restricted in Texas, many women drive up the I-35 on their way to Wichita to kill their children and must pass the billboard site.

Mason and OR missionary Ken Reed discovered that the ground all around the billboard was charred as if a fire had burned there. It was the only spot along the road that was scorched.

“If it was someone’s intent to destroy the sign, they failed,” said OR President Troy Newman. “I believe the hand of God protected that message so that women coming up to Wichita for late abortions at Tiller’s would be ministered to by it.”

Life of the Party Tour Cruises “Fat Tuesday” Parades

Tens of thousands of party-goers view abortion images

New Orleans, LA — Operation Rescue’s Truth Truck fleet cruised the streets of New Orleans today as the Mardi Gras celebration climaxed with “Fat Tuesday” festivities attended by thousands of party-goers.

The Truth Trucks moved slowly through the packed streets as OR drivers conducted debates with passersby from their truck cabs. Busy Canal Street, where some of the most heavily attended parades took place, was jammed with pedestrians ogling at the graphic images of aborted babies that have made the Truth Trucks a topic for national discussion.

“If this was the only street we drove down, this trip would have been more than worth it,” said OR Truth Truck driver Ken Reed. “We got here just before one of the big parades began and have passed through tens of thousands of people.”

The Mardi Gras is the last stop on the Life of the Party Tour that included some of America’s biggest parties including the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC, the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, Florida, and the Super Bowl in Jacksonville.

Along the way, OR was treated to wonderful hospitality and fellowship from local pro-lifers who joined the tour in their home cities. Among them were Robert Varn and his wonder dog, Baxter, (pictured with Troy), who housed the OR contingent in Jacksonville. Many thanks to Robert and all others who helped make the Life of the Party Tour 2005 a huge success.
