Whistleblower Documents Uncover Botched Abortion Epidemic

Columbus, OH – Last month, as she has so many times before, a pro-life sidewalk counselor saw a young woman leaving Complete Healthcare for Women, an abortion clinic in Columbus, Ohio, after an abortion. But this time, the patient swooned, dropped to her knees, and began to vomit as she bled heavily through her clothing.

The sidewalk counselor ran to assist the 19-year old abortion patient and drove her to the local hospital where she was treated.

Medical transcripts indicated that the patient was 13 weeks pregnant at the time of her abortion. She had been “nauseated and lightheaded” while at the abortion clinic, but was discharged while still suffering these symptoms after having been at the clinic for a total of only two hours.

At the emergency room, she was treated for heavy bleeding, and given medication for her dizziness and nausea. It took emergency medical professionals six hours to stabilize her.

Transcripts show that her abortion was done by “Dr. Samuel.” Abortionists known to be employed by Complete Healthcare for Women (CHW) are Milroy J. Samuel, Mervyn J. Samuel, and Michael Subit.

“Thankfully, a sidewalk counselor was present to assist this woman and get her the medical care she needed. We hesitate to think what would have happened to this abortion patient if no one had been there to help her,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

A second abortion patient, also 19 years old, was also recently admitted to a Columbus hospital after suffering excessive bleeding and pelvic pain after her abortion at Capital Care Clinic in her tenth week of gestation. According to her transcripts, she suffered from a hematoma, or internal bleeding inside the tissues, and excessive clotting. Efforts by hospital staff to contact the clinic were unsuccessful.

“It is our understanding from conversations with sidewalk counselors and our confidential sources in Ohio that abortion patients in Columbus end up in the local emergency rooms with alarming frequency. Our whistleblower says that these two incidents are just the tip of the iceberg. The true number of abortion complications is hidden from the public. Abortion is not as safe as the abortionists want you to think and it now appears that complications that require emergency hospitalization have reached epidemic proportions,” said Newman.

“The fact that these two incidents originated at more than one abortion mill shows that out-of control abortion complications are systemic. Oversight agencies have failed in their duty to protect the public from abortion abuses, so we are compelled to blow the whistle on them for the sake of women who have been misled about abortion and its safety. We could be looking at many more ‘shop of horrors’ similar to what we have seen uncovered by inspections in other states.”

Even CHW’s own web site indicates that medical emergencies occur as a matter of routine:

We try our very best to stay on schedule, although emergencies sometimes arise. If we are seriously delayed, we will attempt to notify you as soon as possible. Occasionally, we may call patients in the waiting room out of turn if they have an emergency. We ask for your patience if you have to wait.

Operation Rescue has encouraged the sidewalk counselor, who wishes to remain unnamed, to file complaints with the Medical Board of Ohio against the two clinics and all abortionists involved. Similar complaints filed in other states have resulted in license revocations, clinic closures, and other disciplinary action against abortionists.

“This emphasizes the need for a continuous presence of pro-life activists outside every abortion clinic across the nation,” said Newman. “Not only can pro-lifers can dissuade women from abortions and save the lives of pre-born babies, but they also could witness abortion abuses that could ultimately lead to the closure of the clinic.

“Since the authorities so far have done little to protect the public from abortion abuses, it becomes the duty of the people to expose the abuses and compel the authorities to act shut down these dangerous abortion mills.”

Action Needed!

Baltimore, MD – Pro-Life groups are calling for the Maryland Board of Physicians (MBP) to revoke the medical license of abortionist Romeo Ferrer at a disciplinary hearing tomorrow concerning the abortion death of a woman in 2006.

“It is shocking that this abortionist has been allowed to continue endangering women for four years while the fact that he killed one of his patients was concealed from the public,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We urge the Maryland Board of Physicians to act decisively tomorrow to protect women from further harm by revoking Ferrer’s medical license.”

On February 3, 2006, a 21-year old African American woman went to Gynecare Center for a second trimester dilation and evacuation abortion by Romeo Ferrer. According to the petition filed by the MBP, the patient was overdosed on pain-killing narcotics. She was not properly monitored and appropriate emergency protocols were not followed. This negligence resulted in the patient’s death, which was only recently discovered by local pro-life groups.

A disciplinary hearing has been scheduled for June 2, 2010, at 10:00 AM. Members of the pro-life/pro-faith community held a press conference outside MBP offices in Baltimore this morning to make the abortion death public and call for the revocation of Ferrer’s license. The event was organized by Defend Life.

Unfortunately, this incident was not Ferrer’s first brush with the law. Operation Rescue uncovered disciplinary documents that show a pattern of misdeeds that date back over 20 years. In 1992, Ferrer was disciplined for his incompetence that involved botched abortions and other surgical procedures, including an incident where he knowingly sewed a metal surgical instrument into a patient.

“We urge those who are concerned about the health and welfare of women to contact the Maryland Board of Physicians and ask that they revoke Ferrer’s license and close his abortion clinic,” said Newman. “The Board needs to know that people are watching the outcome of this hearing so that it does not simply become another incident that is swept under the rug. The poor woman who died from Ferrer’s negligence deserves better than that.”

Mainstream Media Reports On Possible Botched Abortion In Florida

Naples, FL – Monday, an article appeared in the Naples News with three photos of an ambulance at the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic preparing to transport a patient to the hospital. As usual, that story was promptly picked up by LifeNews.com, but surprisingly, was then reported by Fox News on their web site.

The news coverage shows a shift in how abortion stories are being reported.

“Not that long ago, no news outlet would have touched this story,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

The photos, submitted to the Naples newspaper by pro-lifer Fred Goduti, show an ambulance backing up to a Planned Parenthood office, with clinic personnel attempting to cover up the incident with a black tarp on two sticks.

“Planned Parenthood’s sheets of shame could not keep the truth from getting out that their organization endangers the lives of women when it takes the lives of pre-born babies,” said Newman. “For many years we have tried to get the media to cover documented cases of ambulances transporting injured women from abortion clinics. Now it is finally happening. This exposure could eventually help close this clinic, and others like it, out of concern for public safety.”

“We urge the pro-lifers who witnessed this incident to file a complaint with their state’s medical board. It is possible that an investigation could result in disciplinary action and even closure of the clinic,” said Newman. “We have seen that happen before in Florida and all over the United States.”

The Planned Parenthood clinic in Naples, Florida, has only been open since September 14, 2009.

“We were praying this would not happen,” Goduti said. “It is inevitable it would happen.”

Marie Claire magazine is scheduled to publish a story about this abortion clinic in July or August.

“It will be interesting to see if Marie Clair follows the lead of the Naples News and Fox News and reports the truth about this incident. Women have a right to know that when they walk into a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, they may leave on an ambulance gurney.”

Other Planned Parenthood organizations have been recently involved in allegations of wrongdoing, including the Iowa group that is under investigation for dispensing dangerous abortion pills over the Internet without a licensed physician present, and a Kansas group that faces 107 criminal charges related to illegal late-term abortions.
