Wichita, KS – Yesterday, late-term abortionist George R. Tiller was served with a lawsuit in small claims court filed by Mark Gietzen asking for the maximum amount of $4,000 for injuries Gietzen sustained during a hit-and-run incident outside Tiller’s abortion clinic last year.
Gietzen drives one of Operation Rescue’s Truth Trucks, and is the director of the Kansas Coalition For Life.
Gietzen says that as he and another man were measuring the driveway to insure that certain prayer activities were within the law, when Tiller accelerated his Jeep Grand Cherokee directly at them, even turning to continue to aim at them as they began to move out of the way. Tiller’s Jeep struck Gietzen as he attempted to move, bruising his arm and leg, and causing pain for several months.
Gietzen filed the small claims action in order to protect other volunteers who pray and offer women assistance outside Tiller’s abortion mill from being similarly attacked.
Gietzen’s lawsuit caught the attention of the producers of two television programs, Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown. Gietzen received letters from both programs asking to try the case on their shows. Gietzen is still considering the offers.
“We support Mark’s efforts to seek a monetary judgment against Tiller in small claims court in compensation for his injuries. It is a shame that he may have to plead his case through a television program in order to get justice,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “This case should have been pursued in criminal court, but since it was rejected by the District Attorney, Mark must take whatever legal recourse is left him. If Tiller suffers no consequences for his reckless behavior, the next time he may kill someone.”
This case adds to Tiller’s growing legal problems. Tiller is currently facing 19 criminal counts of unlawful late-term abortion, a grand jury investigation that is presently on hold pending an appeal to the Kansas Supreme Court, and two active complaints with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts for illegal abortions, violation of medical ethics and standard of care at his Wichita abortion clinic.

first, I love Judge Judy! That show has a lot of viewers….what a perfect pro-life witness to have this case tried on a tv court! all the viewers will see how CRAZY and DANGEROUS abortionists are!
Sarah, I love her too! Unfortunately I have just read that she is pro abortion.
If Judge Judy tries this one, it may be an eye-opener for her as well; I understand that she is a convinced pro-abort; I don’t know about Judge Joe.
In any case, I certainly hope that Mark is compensated for his damages, and that eventually Tiller will be held accountable for his other crimes against humanity…before the BIG judgment.
Being as liberal and pro-abortion as Judge Judy is, for this case to be tried on her show will only serve to make pro-life counselors and demonstators look foolish. Judy will do everything in her power to defend Tillers actions and make a mockery of the pro-life movement.
Secondly, there is no way Tiller is going to go on national television for this spectacle.
Judge Judy is as transparent as glass. I wouldn’t walk into the next room to see her. She’s all about sensationalism and hides behind her mask of being so righteous, when in fact she’s a blatant liberal pro abortion advocate.
Anyone who is pro-abortion is a walking mockery of justice. Judge Judy has this public image of being such a defender of those mistreated, exploited, abused, etc…and so “concerned for innocent children”. Stuck in a hospital waiting room, I saw an episode in which she lambasted a woman clearly guilty of fraud for bringing children into the world to be raised “with no moral compass”… but now it seems that Judge Judy’s compass is so skewed that she has no room to criticize anyone else’s. She supports condemning innocent children to death, with no judge, no jury, no trial, no appeal, and no stay of execution except where state restrictions encourage a 24-hr wait…with a moral compass like that, I doubt that she could find her own way out of a wet paper bag, let alone lead anyone else in a just path.
I think Troy Newman said it best: ““This case should have been pursued in criminal court, but since it was rejected by the District Attorney, Mark must take whatever legal recourse is left him.”" The message being sent by the DA is frightening. Could other people get away with hitting someone with their vehicle and driving away? If not, why is Tiller special?
Anyway, I support Mark taking this case to court. However, in my opinion it’s best not to go on either television court. Even if the producers do not deliberately try to use it against the prolife cause, either show WILL sensationalize it. They do that with every case to make it seem interesting. The sensationalism likely could backfire on the prolife cause. These court shows are ultimately entertainment; they are not like cable news shows which can seriously examine a particular issue.
i do recall an epidsode where judge judy denied money to a woman and her teenage daughter. the mother was seeking reimbursement from the boyfriend who impregnated her teen daughter for medical bills associated with prenatal care and judge judy yelled ” you get NOTHING! you and your daughter made the choice to carry to term so you assume the medical bills” or something along those lines. but that was idea behind it…you decided not to abort so serves you right…
Folks, these shows are not REALLY court proceedings, they are for entertainment. If you go on these shows there is no “appellate court” if you lose. Why? As far as I know, you agree to dismiss your case just to get on the show.
As far as I know, the producers of shows like these scan the filings of court complaints in various geographical areas and approach litigants who have interesting cases. Here’s the rub: As far as I know, the producers basically pay both sides, and/or pay the tab if the plaintiff wins, as an inducement to get the parties to dismiss their actual complaints in advance, and, critically, to be on the show. The parties agree to basically let the judge (and if you think about it, it’s never a “sitting” judge, but it may be a retired judge, etc. — in other words, someone outside the actual court system,) to essentially arbitrate the dispute. If you “lose,” you don’t appeal because someone else picks up the tab. If you check various web encyclopedias for shows like these, you’ll see what I mean.
These shows are for entertainment. They exist for one side to get yelled at because that’s what the audience likes. The audience doesn’t want a serious reasoned opinion, they want someone to get blasted. Quite frankly, I think the judges on this show are there to perform exactly that function. Some people would probably love to have Judge Judy blast them, just to say they were on the show. If you have a serious dispute with someone you stay far away from these shows IMHO. In fact, IMHO I think putting Tiller on these shows makes a mockery of the entire legal system.
I support a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy, but only short term pregnancies. A late term abortion is a completely different circumstance. We’re not just dealing with a fetus and a small mass of cells in an early term abortion, but a fully developed human. Dr. Tiller is indeed a criminal. He obviously has little to no respect for his fellow man/woman. I know that MOST doctors have VERY inflated egos and find it terribly difficult to admit fault in their practice. Dr.Tiller is one of them; but, a criminal, too.
Jorgen, you are the SAME PERSON you were during early pregnancy, middle pregnancy, and late term. EVERY human being’s life began at conception. What difference does it make if that life is DESTROYED earlier on or later on? It is the SAME LIFE. That life ends, at whatever stage. The person is not allowed to have his life. He is not allowed to become that adorable newborn, that new little brother or sister, that little grandson or granddaughter, that cute toddler, that little pre-schooler, that pre-teen, that adolescent, that adult, that parent, that grandparent. NO LIFE for him because his life has been TAKEN FROM HIM. It matters not WHEN that life was taken. It was taken. That person is no longer — all that person was meant by God to be when He created him. 50,000,000 such human beings in the U.S. done to death by abortion. Again, we were ALL that little one in the womb from conception. Think about it for your soul’s sake!
