South Dakota Abortion Ban Passed; Awaits Governor’s Signature
Pierre, SD — Yesterday, South Dakota became the first state since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision decriminalizing abortion, to pass a statewide ban on the procedure. The State Senate gave final approval to the abortion ban, HB 1215, with an overwhelming vote of 23-12. The measure now awaits the signature of Governor Mike Rounds, who has not indicated if he intends to sign the bill into law.
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman was in Pierre last week to hand-deliver letters to lawmakers from Miss Norma McCorvey in support of the abortion ban. McCorvey was the “Jane Roe” who filed the original petition that would eventually allow abortion in America. McCorvey has since has since converted to Christianity and now actively works to end abortion.
“We are encouraged that South Dakota has shown courageous leadership in protecting the most vulnerable among us, the pre-born,” said Newman “We urge Gov. Rounds to sign this historic and bold legislation,” said Newman.
Gov. Rounds has expressed concern that the law will certainly be challenged, and that the cost of litigating this legislation to the Supreme Court level will be a difficult burden for his small state to bear.
“We understand Gov. Rounds financial concerns about the cost of litigating this law and promise, again, to do all we can to network with pro-life and pro-family groups to help insure there are adequate resources to defend this bill all the way to the Supreme Court,” said Newman. “We can’t put a cost on protecting human life.”

Celebrate good times, Come on, let’s celebrate!!
Praise the Lord! God’s mercy is truly pouring down upon us. I’ll keep praying that the governer will sign this into law.
God bless!
Yet more evidence that there are indeed two Americas: the backwards one in the interior where very few people would even want to live and that sucks up subsidies, and the rational one, found along both coasts, that subsidizes the former, and that actually drives the country. Out in the east and in the west, people are actually thinking! Amazed? It actually does happen! Let those backwards hicks outlaw abortion-those who need it will just go seek it elsewhere! Who cares? Victory? A small, inconsquential state limits abortion? Let the good times roll!
to Joseph,
Noone needs abortion, and the only people who want it are population control freaks who view everyone else as their disposable property…and they, for the most part, want death for others, not for themselves. Grow up.
I’m glad that Joseph was able to show the world how naive he really is. Maybe the majority of people on the coasts favor abortions, but not all. Maybe the majority of people in the “interior” favor no abortion but not all. Look at the polls. Nearly 44% of CA favors no-abortion. Not near the majority, but a large percentage none the less.
You think SD is “A small, inconsquential state?” Well that small state is going to make it so the Supreme Court re-visits the case and possibly changes the law for the whole country.
Do you know anything about how the law works Joseph?
Actually, Joseph, no one here is surprised to hear that some people who live in the coastal areas of the U.S. are thinking. We are saddened, however, by the abundance of proof that you are not among them.
Rationality (the real thing, which likely has little or nothing to do with your notion of rational thought, which appears to be entirely driven by your own feelings and biases, not reason) transcends all sorts of boundaries of time, place, race, socioeconomics, age, and other facets of human diversity. So does irrationality; and abortion is one of the most savage, irrational acts of injustice and violence against humanity that there is.
A man much wiser than yourself once made this observation; “An imbecile habit has arisen in modern controversy of saying that such and such a creed can be held in one age but cannot be held in another. Some dogma, we are told, was credible in the twelfth century, but is not credible in the twentieth. You might as well say that a certain philosophy can be believed on Mondays, but cannot be believed on Tuesdays. You might as well say of a view of the cosmos that it was suitable to half-past three, but not suitable to half-past four. What a man can believe depends upon his philosophy, not upon the clock or the century. If a man believes in unalterable natural law, he cannot believe in any miracle in any age. If a man believes in a will behind law, he can believe in any miracle in any age. Suppose, for the sake of argument, we are concerned with a case of thaumaturgic healing. A materialist of the twelfth century could not believe it any more than a materialist of the twentieth century. But a Christian scientist of the twentieth century can believe it as much as a Christian of the twelfth century. It is simply a matter of a man’s theory of things. Therefore in dealing with any historical answer, the point is not whether it was given in our time, but whether it was given in answer to our question.” — G.K. Chesterton
You have added another imbecility to the one he addressed; that of judging a view by where the people live who hold it, not by any rational (!) standard of truth.
Yes, there are, in a sense, two Americas, two Englands, two New Zealands, two Spains, etc., etc.,…this list could go on and on; but the real dichotomy is not where you have drawn it, because it is impossible to draw a straight line or an accurate representation in the dark and it is clear that where you are, it is black as pitch; it is rather because the thin line between good and evil runs straight down the middle of every human heart. But you do not appear, at this point, able or willing to discern or acknowledge the difference between good and evil, so it’s not surprising that you would not be able to find the line where it really is.
Think about it…once you get around to the activity you so praise in others. To get started, you might try simple exercises such as distinguishing fecal matter from shinola, your head from a hole in the ground…
All the best in your new journey!
Today the governor of South Dakota has joined the ranks of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. as a great defender of civil rights and human equality. I commend him for his courage to stand up for those whom the “enlightened” call “nonpersons.” Genocide (the murder of people considered less valuable than other people) is no longer a choice in South Dakota. Praise God!
thanks to gorverner mike rounds ma name sake for signing that bill into a law for south dakota now my brethren youi are free from that kind of a terrorism that tergets the voiceless and innocent but we that God almighty for men like gorverner mike rounds thanks for the back bone in you.
I would just like to say that it is not 19th century anymore
(concerning women’s rights).
Abortion is a woman’s choice, and her’s alone to make.
I think you shouldn’t interfer with other peoples decisions, if you don’t think abortion is ethical, then don’t have one, but hey, if the girl down the street wants one, then, it’s not up to you, it’s her body and she should have the freedom to do what she wants with it!
The world and its people will always be opposition with itself/themselves and others. It is quite sad really. This is not a black and white world. While we attempt to make it so whether church or state representation. People from either side of a front whether war, politics, human rights etc. need to realize that their one sided fight does not create unity, it creates animosity from the oppsoing side which will be dueled upon until the end of time. Welcome to our world. Or maybe in some instances you will not be welcomed to our world. In either instance, this world is gray NOT black or white. there will never be all or nothing and nor should there be.
If someone doesn’t want children then they should make sure that they do not get pregnant either by birth control pills (before getting pregnant) or abstaining from screwing around. Abortion is murder, period. Flat-out murder.
So to avoid being a murderer – DON’T GET PREGNANT!
That’s the wise “CHOICE”.
Well said Linda!Dria, step out of the darkness.
