Washington, DC — Operation Rescue issues the following statement, attributable to Troy Newman, regarding Rick Warren’s role in the upcoming Obama inaugural ceremonies:
Yesterday, Pastor Rick Warren issued a statement attempting to excuse his act of support for Mr. Obama, an ardent supporter of abortion, by saying, “The Bible admonishes us to pray for our leaders.” However, Pastor Warren’s participation in Obama’s Inauguration is tantamount to placing his stamp of approval on Obama and his policies that stand in direct opposition to Biblical truths.
The Bible clearly states in Ephesians 5:11 that as Christians we should have “nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
Barack Obama not only supports the grievous sin of abortion, but has vowed to promote, subsidize, and protect it. The hands that shed innocent blood are among the things God particularly detests. As a minister of the Gospel, it is a betrayal of innocent children and, more importantly, betrayal of the God in whose image they are created to turn a blind eye to the shedding of innocent blood and join hands with those that are responsible for shedding it.
Instead of lending support to a man who clearly stands in opposition to God’s Law on the critical matter of child-killing, we fervently urge Pastor Warren to instead follow the examples of godly men who, throughout the Scriptures, boldly proclaimed God’s truth and exposed the sin of leaders in order to protect the people from that sin.
Just as Elijah rebuked King Ahab and John the Baptist rebuked King Herod, we urge Pastor Warren to have nothing to do with Mr. Obama’s administration, but rather, expose him and his sin to the world, so there might be repentance.
It is possible for Pastor Warren to pray for our leaders without giving his blessing to Mr. Obama’s administration with his participation in his Inaugural ceremonies. We urge Pastor Warren to, for the love of God, honor Jesus Christ instead of taking honor for himself, and decline to participate in Mr. Obama’s Inauguration.

There seems to be a disagreement among pro lifers as to whether or not this Warren thing is a good idea. Tony Perkins seems to think is a good thing, Newman thinks otherwise. Personally, I can see both sides.
I think that if Warren uses the platform to advance the cause of life, it could be a good thing. If he stands up in front of millions and claims that each person is created equal, that America made the mistake of proclaiming Blacks “non-persons” and is now making the same mistake with regards to the unborn, then he will be doing a good thing, no?
Rick Warren is a joke. On 60 Mins., he said that he would never hold a sign which said “Abortion is Murder”, because it might offend someone. Yet, he actively campaigned to ban gay marriage in CA. I guess government regulation of marriage is more important that stopping abortion.
Now, after helping Obama in the campaign for prez., he is openly supporting this foreign-born alien in his presidency.
Yes, Rick Warren is a joke. A very bad joke.
I would urge caution in calling Obama an “unfruitful work of darkness” and have a gag order in place for any “true Christian” to even be seen with him yet alone dare to accept an invitation to prayer. Norma McCorvey wasn’t an “unfruitful work of darkness” rather a soul yearning for a true Christian to lay down his sword and offer to pray with her. Hearts are changed when we show love in the midst of darkness. Let us pray that Rick Warren will be that light and be a vessel of conversion to all who hear.
So I guess the prophet Daniel is a bad role model. He should have told Nebuchudnezzar to stuff it, that he (Daniel) was too holy to associate with such a heathen.
Justin, for “Abortion is Murder” to be true, the people doing it would have to KNOW it’s murder. Go check out sites like After Abortion and Silent No More and Operation Outcry and you’ll quickly see that the women involved often didn’t realize at the time what they were actually doing. They were acting on false information.
For an act to be murder, you have to KNOW you’re killing and do it with malice.
I don’t even like to call Rick Warren a ‘pastor’ anymore. Also isn’t he a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, which is proabortion?
Also why is Rick Warren smiling in that picture with B.O.? The unborn babies aren’t smiling as they face the suction machine and the dead women who’ve died by LEGAL abortion aren’t smiling either.
Who would be more appropriate? Rev Wright? Jesse Jackson?
Has Risk Warren condoned abortion? If not then he may have Obama’s ear and he may be preaching the Gospel to him. I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. I do know what Saddleback professes as a church and I do know that Rick preaches that integrity is necessary for leadership. Who knows, maybe Obama will come out at some point in the future and recognize his sin publicly and work towards ending abortion. We should all be praying that God changes Obama’s heart and that Rick is witnessing in Biblical truth while he has the Pres. elect’s ear.
Here is an interesting article.

It seems both pro choice and pro life groups are against this guy.
I must concur with Christina here.
I have observed Pastor Warren’s recent television appearances; moreover, I read his book “The Purpose-Driven Life.” While the self-penned tome did not affect me profoundly (positively or negatively), I was impressed by his recent statements.
I am saddened by Mr. Newman’s harshness here. I feel it serves no discernible purpose. I appreciate Mr. Newman’s heartfelt declarations about all human persons being created in the likeness of God. It is a noble belief, certainly. Am I always able to match it? No, I am not. I am simply too old, too world-weary, and too disillusioned to wholly concur.
Pastor Warren stated, with alacrity, that he does not always agree with our president-elect. He did, however, extend Christlike dignity and friendship to Mr. Obama. I do not find fault with this.
I still have, and have always harbored, a rather radical idea: Perhaps it’s incumbent upon all of us to avoid abortion. Ours is a far different world than that of January 1973. Many of us are nearly 36 years older, far less naive, and far too human to cast Warren and Obama as the enemies here.
I cannot demonize Pastor Warren or President-Elect Obama. I have made enough mistakes – on both sides of this divisive issue – to avoid casting stones. It makes me far too sad, and far too troubled in my own conscience, to do so.
Rick Warren may have a church, but that does not mean he is serving God.
Rev Fred Phelps kids held a sign a year ago that said AMERICA IS DOOMED.
I believe only the later folks were used by God.
Maybe, maybe, maybe. Wow, the people bending over backwards for this Rick Warren clown amaze me!
We do know that BHO picked him because it will help BHO.
So, boys and girls, listen closely for the secret phrase, “abortion is murder” in the invocation when Rick Warren uses his opportunity to reprimand BHO for supporting infanticide.
Meanwhile, I’ll be doing something far more important with my time, like watching a Jerry Springer re-run.
Rick Warren’s appearance, and invocation, at the Inauguration, should send alarm bells off to all discerning Christians. What we are witnessing ,is a conglomeration of all faiths coming together for one big Kumbya (sp?) This wreaks of an anti-Christ spirit. Do not be deceived brethern.
Thank you Operation Rescue for condemning the actions of Rick Warren giving the prayer at Obama’s inguaration. I wonder if Warren would have done so at the ceremonies for King Herod.? Well, that is what we have with the election of King Herod Huessin Obama. Or if he would have prayed at Hilter’s reign? Warren is giving the wrong impression, especially with his arm around King Huessin Obama, thus lessening the fact that millions more babies will be executed by abortion for generations, if BO signs the Freedom of Choice act.
There is weeping in America, like in Rachel’s time, when she wept and mourned for her children because they were no more and refused to be comforted. Matthew 2:18.
