Partial-birth abortionist LeRoy Carhart, who partied with KS Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, is running his abortion “dump” on generator power
Bellevue, NE – LeRoy Carhart’s run-down abortion mill reopened on Saturday, March 7, 2009, after having been damaged by an accidental fire in January. Pro-lifers on the scene report that appalling conditions remain at the clinic.
Larry Donlan, Director of Rescue the Heartland, described the exterior of the dilapidated building as being surrounded by rusted-out vehicles and other junk, including a generator, which apparently supplied electricity for the day’s abortion business.
“Connected to the mill by a long extension cord sat a generator that purred away all morning, making one question if they even had electricity. I’ve often wondered how anyone could patronize such a junk yard posing as a ‘health clinic,’” said Donlan.
Last month, the electrician working on Carhart’s fire repairs quit on moral grounds after he was informed by pro-lifers that he was enabling Carhart to continue to do abortions.
Carhart has ties to Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who has been nominated by President Obama to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Carhart and his wife, Mary Lou, attended a secret party hosted by Sebelius at the governor’s mansion in April, 2007. Sebelius honored George Tiller and his abortion staff, including Carhart who works part-time for Tiller.
“It is doubtful that Carhart could have opened with the proper permits, and may have been operating illegally,” said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. “We can only assume that if Carhart’s friend, Gov. Sebelius, is placed in charge of our nation’s health care, that we will see an increase in horrific conditions throughout the abortion industry.”
Sebelius opposed or vetoed several bills in Kansas that would have provided minimum safety standards for abortion mills and would have forced them to clean up or close. Former abortion clinic employees who have worked with Carhart at Tiller’s late-term abortion mill in Wichita, Kansas, have told Operation Rescue that he has a reputation for sloppy personal and professional habits, and for laziness, which shows in his Bellevue abortion building.
Donlan reports that a number of pro-lifers gathered in prayer at the abortion site on Saturday and offered help to women. He said that through their efforts, one woman reconsidered her decision to abort, and left the scene having made a commitment to keep her baby.
Operation Rescue plans to report the dangerous conditions at Carhart’s abortion mill to the proper authorities on Monday.
