Tiller facing 19 years in jail; Christians will pray during criminal arraignment on Tuesday
Wichita, KS — The nation’s most notorious late-term abortion mill is currently turning away all patients. Women’s Health Care Services, operated by abortionist George R. Tiller of Wichita, Kansas, is closed this week and will not accept appointments for next week, when Tiller is scheduled to be arraigned on 19 criminal counts of committing illegal abortions without obtaining the signature of a doctor who was not financially or legally affiliated with him. Women’s Health Care Services is referring patients to abortionists in Kansas City and Oklahoma.
“We are rejoicing that for two straight weeks, Wichita, Kansas, the nation’s abortion capital, will be abortion free for the first time since abortions began here. Even during the 1991 Summer of Mercy, Tiller was not closed that long,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “We pray that abortions will never resume.”
Tiller’s clinic was also was closed to abortion patients the first week in July. Last month over 500 people prayed for its closure during the Wichita Awakening event hosted by Operation Rescue. It is unclear when and if abortions will resume.
Operation Rescue moved its corporate office to Wichita in 2002, and has since relentlessly exposed wrongdoing at Tiller’s mill.
“Because of public pressure brought by Operation Rescue, over a dozen clinic workers have quit their jobs with Tiller and dozens of companies will no long do business with him,” said Newman. “We have exposed numerous botched abortions that have landed women in the hospital, uncovered an abortion death, and exposed his illegal business relationship with abortionist Kristin Neuhaus, for which he is now facing criminal charges. God has blessed our work and honored our prayers by giving us a respite from the killing.”
Tiller was charged on June 28 with 19 counts of committing illegal abortions without obtaining the signature of a doctor who was financially or legally affiliated with him. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 9:30 AM. Operation Rescue is encouraging Christians to gather outside the Sedgwick County Courthouse and pray during the arraignment time.
Prayer Vigil Information:
When: Tuesday, August 7, 2007, beginning at 9:00 AM
Where: Outside the Sedgwick County Courthouse at the corner of Central and Main.
Why: Pray for justice during Tiller’s criminal arraignment, and a permanent end to Tiller’s abortion business
“Prayer is especially important at this critical time,” said Newman. “We cannot hope to see justice without the favor of our Righteous God.”

The article is great news! However, I thought there was one or two other abortuaries in Wichita. And aren’t there some killers in the hospitals like the one Tiller runs his botched victims to? If so, then “abortion-free” isn’t correct.
Regardless, it’s great that Tiller has taken a break. I doubt it has anything to do with him personally. My guess is that his staff is worried that criminal charges might be levied against them!
I hope I’m wrong. I hope he’s taking a break because of his (physical and/or mental) health.
Blessings to ORW.
This is awesome news! I hope they charge and convict this murderer! It’s long overdue!
Although excellent news in and of itself, I’m curious: Is there any evidence the closure is connected to the criminal charges? Or is it a case where the abortuary closes when Tiller is on vacation? I hope and suspect the former, but I note that the clinic was closed last year too. Can anyone provide any definitive information?
Regards,
Frank
To Heywood: There are no other abortion mills in Wichita. We bought Tiller’s only competitor, Central Women’s Services, last year and are in the process of renovating it into a memorial and our national headquarters. Tiller is the only abortionist in town.
To Frank: Tiller employs 3 other abortionists from out-of state (besides himself). When he goes on vacation, they cover the business for him. The killing never stops, except for a day or two when an occasional holiday falls during the business week. The current closures this week and next are unprecedented. He was also closed the entire first week in July.
As far as Tiller being “closed last year, too” I can assure you that it was not closed for more than a couple of days surrounding holidays, and perhaps a day or so during the grand jury investigation into Christin Gilbert’s death when some of Tiller’s employees testified.
We are not sure when Tiller will resume abortions. We pray he never will, but in the meantime, as we said in our press release, we rejoice and thank God for the respite in the killing, even if it is only temporary.
praying here for a permanent end to this horrible injustice, and in memory of all the babies who just visited for a moment in their pre-born time here on earth..
Heywood thanks you for your note to Howard.
“As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.” — Proverbs 25:25
Well actually Wichita isn’t THAT far from where I am, but this is GREAT NEWS!!! I join you in praying that Tiller never resumes his barbaric trade in human flesh, is brought to justice, and that OR or another prolife group takes over his death camp and either razes it to the ground and turns it into a something as life-affirming as WHCS has been death-dealing, as honest as they have been deceitful, as compassionate and giving as they have been cruel, greedy and self-seeking, ETC. … in short, that it will yet become something that will be as much a boon to Wichita, to Kansas, to the U.S., and to the world as WHCS has been a bane. If it does…let me know, and I’ll pack my bags and join on somehow! In the meantime, the respite and exposure of his wickedness can’t but save the lives of some of the children he would have been glad to slaughter, laughing all the way to the bank with their blood money…then, if mom was injured too, he’d have been on her case like ugly on an ape to shut her up…the better to hurt and kill more victims, my dear…Oh, this is like…like…well, like Christmas in July in the best sense of the phrase!
Just a little bit of summer left, but if anyone has run out of summer reading, here are a couple of very timely, insightful must-reads for those who haven’t yet had the pleasure: “The Lamb and the Fuhrer” and “Sense and Sensuality”, both by Ravi Zacharias. I’ve been rereading them both lately…and the more I read them, the better they get! Do it. Get thee posthaste to your nearest Christian bookstore and order them if you have to; it’ll be the best 16 bucks or so that you’ve spent in a long time!
Operation Rescue has exposed George Tiller as murderer of babies. No matter what the outcome, his reputation is tarnished in front of the whole world. His church is fully aware of his sins, thanks to the brave witnesses who embarassed him with the truth of his sins! Everyone there heard for themselves and will now have an opinion which they will discuss and pass on to the next person! The O’Reilly Factor has exposed Tiller as a criminal! People are talking. Business is not going to run so smoothly for him. Employees will not be proud to say, “I work for Tiller.” Life is not going to be “quite so good.” Profits and reputation have been affected. Quality physicians and reputable hospitals are not going to recommend him. He is too much in the “limelight” for anyone to”take a chance” with. They will not want to put their own reputation at stake. No matter what the outcome of the legal proceedings, life is not going to be the same for Mr. Tiller. I have a feeling, he will personally recognize the symptoms of depression before it is over, and he will actually see that he needs treatment. The man is cowardly on the inside. You can see it in his eyes and his lack of ability to speak to those who confront him. He is like a scared dog, running with its tail betwen its legs, hiding for cover. That’s why his abortion mill is closed at present. He knows he is a very hated man. His support system is dwindling. The only vacation Tiller is on is into the dark recesses of a depraved and scared man. No matter how much money he has accumulated, he has himself to live with, which must be very hard.
Well said, Alayna.
I wish I could join you, OR, on Tuesday; but will definitely be praying in concert with you for justice in Tiller’s arraignmanet, and a permanent end to his (and all his cronies’) killing spree.
