Formal Complaints Ask Michigan AG For Criminal Investigation Of Abortionist Hodari

Lansing, MI — Operation Rescue has filed formal complaints against abortionist Alberto Hodari with the Michigan Attorney General’s office and with the Michigan Department of Community Health, asking for investigations in to criminal misconduct in the alleged forced abortion of Caitlin Bruce last year.

Ms. Bruce filed a civil suit against Hodari in June. In her suit, she says she withdrew her consent for an abortion after seeing her baby on an ultrasound. She accuses Hodari and his assistant of holding her down and covering her mouth to muffle her screams while Hodari viciously forced an abortion upon her.

“We have filed the appropriate complaints to insure that the correct authorities are also investigating possible criminal charges and causes for discipline against Hodari’s medical license,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

Judy Climer, director of Flint Right to Life, has also filed a separate, similar complaint with the Michigan Attorney General.

Bruce never filed her own criminal complaint because “she was young and knew it wouldn’t bring her baby back,” according to a story that appeared Sunday in the Flint Journal.

“While these complaints are too late to help Ms. Bruce, they may serve to prevent this horror from being inflicted upon other women,” said Newman. “In fact, evidence shows that Hodari has likely forced abortions on women for at least two decades.”

The Flint Journal article indicated that an abortion clinic employee present during Bruce’s abortion said in a statement that was filed with the suit that Hodari told Bruce that he would not do her abortion and was sending her home, but instead forced the abortion on her. He then grinned as he completed the abortion.

Another woman recently told of a similar experience with Hodari in 1988. Jennifer McCoy never considered abortion and had been taken to Hodari’s clinic at age 16 under the pretence of receiving a routine obstetrical examination. Hodari assured her that he was only examining her to determine how far along she was, when suddenly Jennifer felt the sharp pain of the abortion.

“These two accounts are far too similar to be a coincidence,” said Newman. “Even though Hodari denies any wrongdoing, he has also made it clear that he believes abortionists have a ‘license to lie.’ We are convinced that he lied to Mrs. McCoy, he lied to Ms. Bruce, and now he’s lying about culpability in these horrific crimes. Hodari’s behavior is that of a maniac that has likely been abusing women for at least 20 years. It is time that the legal system brings his reign of terror to an end.”

Forced Abortion Victim Says Hodari “Ripped the Life” Out of Her

Operation Rescue to make formal request for criminal charges

Flint, MI – An ABC affiliate aired today a video interview with Caitlin Bruce, the woman who has sued abortionist Abraham Alberto Hodari for committing a forced abortion on her. Bruce appeared on camera and said that she changed her mind and withdrew her consent after viewing an ultrasound image of her baby.

“He told his assistant, you know, ‘Hold her down.’ You know? They had my arm pinned, his weight was all on my chest, and then he took his hand and he had it so tight on my mouth that it was muffled. I was screaming and I was crying,” said Bruce.

“They ripped the life out of me that day.”

Hodari denies any wrong doing, but in the meantime, he has put his abortion clinics up for sale along with his expensive classic car collection, and filed for a hasty divorce from his wife of 29 years. Many local pro-lifers, including Judy Climer of Flint Right to Life, who has been working with Operation Rescue in a joint effort to expose Hodari, believe that the liquidation of assets may be a precursor to his fleeing the country.

Hodari has a long history of misconduct. He was involved in at least four abortion-related maternal deaths, was convicted of illegally dumping private medical records, and has boasted that abortionists have a “license to lie.” [Read more about Hodari’s history of misconduct.]

“Hodari is a menace to the public and the sooner he is held accountable for his atrocities in a court of law, the better,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “It is shocking and wrong that this quack is still in business. We ask that the Michigan Attorney General’s office launch a criminal investigation into Hodari’s shop of horrors, and will be filing a formal request to that effect this week.”

UPDATE: The news station has removed the video, but below is a transcript of the interview provided by ABC affiliate WJRT.

Allegations of misconduct brought against local doctor

FLINT (WJRT) — (11/23/09)–Allegations have been brought against a Flint doctor by a Genesee County teenager who says that doctor physically forced her to have an abortion.

She has filed a civil lawsuit against the doctor, and that lawsuit is now drawing national attention from anti-abortion groups.

It is a controversial lawsuit. Caitlin Bruce says she is seeking justice with the lawsuit she filed in June against the doctor who she says went to far.

That Flint doctor says he had no choice and did nothing wrong.

“They ripped the life out of me that day,” Bruce said.

Bruce was just 18 years old and 6 weeks pregnant when she says walked into the Feminine Health Care Clinic in Flint last year.

“I was nervous and I really didn’t have the moral support I needed. And I just didn’t know what to do,” Bruce said.

Bruce says she wrestled with her decision in the waiting room.

“They started the ultrasound. The lady turned the ultrasound toward me and said, ‘This is your baby. This is the heart flicker,’” Bruce said.

Bruce says that’s when she changed her mind. But she claims Dr. Abraham Hodari did the procedure anyway.

“He told his assistant, ‘Hold her down.’ They had my arm pinned,” Bruce said.

“His weight was all on my chest and then he took his hand and he had it so tight on my mouth that it was muffled. I was trying to scream, ‘Stop!’

“I was screaming. I was crying. It felt like they were ripping a life out of me. When he was done, he looked at me. He gave me a smirk and he left he room.”

We tried to reach Hodari at his clinic on South Saginaw Street, but he wasn’t available.

In court documents, Hodari denies the plaintiff’s claims and says they are untrue and defends his actions, saying: “The surgical instrument was inside her uterus and she was already bleeding when she verbalized any misgivings.”

“My client acted properly under the circumstance. This was an abortion that was consented to,” said Steve Weiss, Hodari’s attorney.

“When the patient first expressed misgivings about it, it was too far along for Dr. Hodari to stop.”

Bruce’s lawyer admits Hodari has long been a target for anti-abortion groups, but he says that shouldn’t matter.

“This is shockingly wrong no matter what camp you’re in,” said Tom Pabst, the plaintiff’s attorney. “This shouldn’t have happened. If a woman says stop, it should’ve stopped.”

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton says he is not investigating this case for possible criminal charges.

No police report was filed.

Washington, DC — On Saturday evening, the Senate voted 60-39 to open debate on their version of the health care bill that stripped away the House provision that would have banned the tax funding of abortions. The Senate version now being considered would open the floodgates on the public funding of abortion.

“The voice of the American people was not heard on the Senate floor, but we will be heard before this debate is over,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“The vast majority of Americans oppose tax funding for abortions. With the 2010 elections just around the corner, politicians must realize that opposition to abortion and tax funding of abortion are deeply held convictions that voters will express at the ballot box. Elected officials who ignore the will of the people by supporting efforts to allow tax money to be used to take innocent lives and bail out a failing abortion industry cannot expect to receive the votes of their constituents that they ignored and betrayed.”

“There is still a long way to go before the massive health care bill can become law,” Newman continued. “We will continue to expose and oppose the anti-life measures that are being forced upon the unwilling American public.”
