Washington, DC – The birth control bail out was dropped today from the government’s economic stimulus package after a number of pro-life/pro-family groups, including Operation Rescue, expressed outrage yesterday over a proposed $200 million allotment for contraceptives that was promoted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“This is a huge victory for American taxpayers and for the pro-life movement. We rejoice that the coffers of Planned Parenthood and their ilk will be denied $200 million in public money for what amounted to a shameful population control program that targeted low-income families,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Pelosi’s plan, claiming that having children was bad for the economy, was nonsense that deserved a strong public rebuke.”

The birth control allotment was removed from the stimulus package at the request of President Barrack Obama, who appeared to be trying to avoid a showdown with conservatives that he was likely to lose. It was rightly determined that the money would not stimulate the economy or create jobs.

“This victory proves that pro-lifers still wield power, no matter what the liberal pundits claim,” said Newman.

Washington, DC – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated on ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday morning that the government should pay for birth control as a part of the economic stimulus package in order to reduce costs.

“So now, according to Pelosi’s thinking, flooding abortion clinics with tax money to pay for contraception is supposed to stimulate the economy. That’s ‘freakonomics’ at best. But at worst, it is a government sponsored program to reduce the population,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “This is the beginning of the pay-back to Planned Parenthood for supporting Obama.”

Abortion businesses, such as Planned Parenthood are likely to financially benefit the most from Pelosi’s anti-baby windfall. Birth control pills are abortefacients that can either kill human beings in the earliest stage of development. Birth control failure can lead to an increase in abortions. Because of this, there are moral objections to birth control pills and other so-called contraceptives.

“Pelosi is implying that low-income people should not be having babies as a means of stimulating the economy. This is the complete opposite of what her Catholic religious beliefs instruct her. The Bible clearly states that children are a gift from God and a reward, not a burden,” said Newman.

“Pelosi is literally placing a price-tag on the lives of innocent children. It is outrageous and abhorant that the government should attempt to use tax dollars to regulate the size of one’s family based on their socio-economic status. It smacks of eugenics. That is a policy you would expect to find in Communist China, but not in the United States.”

Wichita, KS — Operation Rescue led a candlelight prayer vigil outside the nations’s largest late-term abortion mill, Women’s Health Care Services, on the 36th memorial of Roe v. Wade.

As about 150 pro-lifers gathered for prayer, double the number from the previous year, troubled abortionist George Tiller slipped out the gate and headed off for home.

“In previous years, Tiller has posted defiant banners, held rallies, even offered free abortions. There was none of that this year,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “He tried to simply sneak out of his abortion mill without anyone noticing.”

Tiller currently faces 19 criminal charges of having committed illegal late-term abortions in 2003. Operation Rescue revealed new allegations of criminality at Tiller’s abortion mill when it released the results of an undercover investigation that showed WHCS employees intentionally underestimating fetal ages and viability in order to justify illegal abortions.

After the group finished their vigil at Tiller’s abortion clinic, they adjourned to Operation Rescue’s National headquarters for a premiere showing of the new movie “22 Weeks.”
