Tiller Demands Special Treatment At Trial

Meanwhile, AG Morrison unhappy that McHugh interview will be heard by Committee

Wichita, KS — Attorneys for abortionist George R. Tiller are demanding special treatment for their client as he faces 19 criminal misdemeanor counts of violating the Kansas ban on post-viability abortions. Tiller wants a jury of 12 to hear his case, but Kansas state law only allows for a jury of six on misdemeanor cases.

“Anyone else facing similar charges in Kansas would get a jury of six. Tiller is trying to increase his chances of weaseling out of these charges by asking for a jury of twelve. It is just another example of how Tiller acts as if the laws don’t apply to him in the same way they do to everyone else. He has gotten so much special treatment that he now demands it,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

In other developments, Attorney General Paul Morrison, an abortion supporter who reluctantly charged Tiller with the 19 counts in June, is saying he is opposed to the interim legislative committee hearing the 44-minute recorded interview with Dr. Paul McHugh that discusses his professional opinion that Tiller misused psychiatry to illegally justify late-term abortions for trivial reasons. The recording is scheduled to be played tomorrow as the 3-day hearings begin.

While McHugh is still technically listed as a witness in Morrison’s case against Tiller, he is not expected to testify because his statements reference violations of part of the late-term abortion law that Morrison did not include in his case against Tiller.

“Dr. McHugh’s full interview has been in the public domain for months now. Morrison’s objections to playing the interview make him look like he is trying to hide the truth from the public,” said Newman. “This does nothing but raise even more questions about his willingness to properly prosecute Tiller under the law.”

“Let the truth come out,” said Newman. “The people have a right to know the full extent of what is known about Tiller’s illegal activities. Covering up that information only works to destroy the public’s confidence in the system’s ability to administer justice.”

Toilet Babies Evidence of Numbness Toward Life

But indications suggest that may be changing

By Cheryl Sullenger

Kansas City, MO — A 20-year old McDonald’s employee attempted to flush her newborn baby down the toilet at the Kansas City restaurant where she worked after she unexpectedly gave birth to a 32-week baby boy on Monday.

She told shocked co-workers that she had “flushed three times but that it would not go down.”

Fortunately, paramedics arrived in time to resuscitate the baby, who was discovered face down in the toilet water not breathing and without a pulse. The little boy is doing well and expected to recover completely.

It is possible that the woman could face criminal charges for attempting to harm her baby – but then again, she may not.

This is evidence of a society that continues to be unconcerned about the criminal activity of Dr. George Tiller – a Wichita, Kansas abortionist who continues to perform illegal late term abortions on viable babies — babies similar in age to the victim in the McDonalds incident.

Take the example of a woman named Kelly, who told the story of her abortion on The O’Reilly Factor news program last December. Kelly’s abortion took place at Tiller’s infamous late-term abortion mill in Wichita at 20 weeks. She was sent into premature labor then taken to a room to deliver her dead child.

“In this other room there is basically a toilet, and they told me to sit on the toilet, lean on the nurse and push — push my baby into a toilet,” Kelly told a national television audience.

When asked what happened to the baby’s body she replied, “I have no idea. I left my baby dead in a toilet.” (Click here to view Kelly’s entire interview.)

So perhaps we should not be shocked by today’s headline of a woman who did the same thing to her baby in a McDonalds restroom stall. Life doesn’t seem to mean as much to people as it once did, when an attempted cold, callous murder of a newborn infant would have stirred public outrage and, without question, merited a long prison term.

There is some evidence, however, that the hearts of people are beginning to stir, and there are some indications that attitudes may be changing about the acceptance of late abortions. This is true particularly in Kansas, where Tiller is facing 19 years in jail for committing illegal late-term abortions on viable babies, some about as old as the young McDonald’s worker’s son. An interim committee of the Kansas Legislature will convene on Friday to consider late-abortions and their impact on Kansas and the nation.

Maybe, just maybe, this Midwestern state will just say no to killing babies in the later stages of pregnancy and aggressively enforce their existing laws banning abortions after viability. This would send a message to our nation’s calloused conscience that pre-born babies have infinitely greater value than the contents of a toilet bowl.

“The law is not there simply to punish wrong-doing. It is there to teach and train people the difference between right and wrong. Our laws have let us down when it comes to protecting innocent children in the womb – but that can change,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman, who has spent the past five years publicly exposing Tiller’s late-term abortion business.

“Kansas can set an example that will help teach people the value of life,” said Newman. But one thing is sure. If we continue to embrace abortion as a nation, we can only expect to see more toilet babies. That is a tragedy that we, as a society, cannot continue to bear.”

Tiller’s Criminal Abortions Subject of Interim Legislative Hearings

Topeka, KS — A special committee of the Kansas Legislature will begin hearing testimony Friday concerning late-term abortions and how they are reported, focusing on the lack of enforcement the Kansas post-viability abortion ban.

“We know that the Tiller acolytes and other abortion supporters will be up there attempting to convince the committee to dump the law or weaken it to the point of irrelevancy,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“We plan to be present at every day of the hearings to represent the interests of innocent viable babies who are at risk because the laws are not being properly enforced,” said Newman. “Because lives are at stake, we cannot allow disinformation from the abortion cartel go unchallenged.”

The hearings were prompted by charges of illegal abortions that were filed by two separate state attorneys general. While former AG Phill Kline’s more serious charges were dropped on dubious juristictional grounds, they raised questions about how the law is being interpreted and enforced. Current Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison filed 19 charges against Tiller in June for committing illegal post-viability abortions by using as the required second signature an abortionist with whom he had financial ties.

The hearings, which will be chaired by pro-life Rep. Arlen Siegfreid, are scheduled to continue September 6 and 7 with a number of experts and national pro-life leaders expected to testify, including, tentatively, Operation Rescue’s Troy Newman.

Pro-life groups have scheduled a press conference on September 6 at noon.

“The Kansas law banning abortions after 21 weeks is very clear and has been Constitutionally tested. Tiller is violating this law while agencies that are supposed to be enforcing the law are looking the other way. Because women are coming from every state in the U.S. to abort their babies at Tiller’s late-term mill in Wichita, this has become a national problem and a disgrace on the State of Kansas,” said Newman. “We pray that these hearings will prompt proper enforcement of existing Kansas law and get these illegal abortionists out of business for good.”
