Abortion is BIG Loser in Senate Confirmation Vote

Washington, DC — Abortion supporters were dealt a crucial blow when the U.S. Senate voted 58-42 to confirm Judge Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court, increasing their fears that abortion may soon be declared unconstitutional.

The first loss to the abortion lobby came in the Senate on Tuesday night when it failed to muster the required 41 votes to block the confirmation vote of Judge Alito.

Alito faced stiffer opposition because, unlike Chief Justice John Roberts, he never admitted that Roe is “settled law.”

“This lack of capitulation to the pro-abortion crowd incited a feeble coalition of pro-abortion Senators to mount a filibuster attempt,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “That effort predictably failed, opening the way for today’s vote.”

Senators John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, Edward Kennedy and 21 other Senators pinned their failed hopes of defeating Alito’s confirmation on his opposition to abortion. But a number of Democratic Senators broke ranks with the abortion lobby and cast their votes in support of Judge Alito.

“Pro-life is a winning position,” said Newman. “Abortion lost today, abortion lost in the last two presidential elections, and abortion will continue to lose its death grip on the American people.”

“Support for abortion on demand is dying and Roe’s supporters are gasping for air. It is only the out-dated Senators, like Ted Kennedy, hanging on to the past who haven’t figured out that abortion’s days are numbered,” Newman said.

Alito Confirmation One More Nail in Roe’s Coffin

Washington, DC — With the confirmation of Samuel Alito today to the United States Supreme Court, Operation Rescue expresses hopeful optimism that the nation is one step closer to an end to abortion on demand.

“We believe that Roe v. Wade can be gutted with the simple finding that the fetus is a person,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “There are five states that are currently working bills through their legislatures that will challenge the issue of personhood head-on. We believe that with Justice Alito on the bench, these cases have an unprecedented opportunity to nail the lid on the coffin of Roe for good.”

“There is a real sense of optimism in the pro-life movement that soon the legal protections of personhood will be restored to the pre-born, and this will bring an end — once and for all — to the shedding of innocent blood that has devastated our women and our families for 33 tragic years,” said Newman.

“While we look hopefully toward that day, it sadly cannot come soon enough for those scheduled to die today,” said OR Outreach Coordinator Cheryl Sullenger, “and that is why we will continue to work tirelessly until all pre-born babies are protected, whether the new Supreme Court eventually acts or not.”

Recommended Reading: Two Recent Articles Will Inspire And Encourage

We at Operation Rescue would like to recommend two excellent articles that have been published in the past few days.

The first is an article that appeared Saturday in the LA Times, a very liberal newspaper called “Grief, Gratitude and Baby Lee” about the hospice work of Choices Medical Center Perinatal Hospice Program.

For those of you who may not know, Choices is directly next door to George Tiller’s late-term abortion mill in Wichita, KS. This article focuses on one of Choices’s clients, a woman pregnant with twins, one of which is anencephalic, and her decision not to abort him. This one is a real tear-jerker and very well worth the read.

Grief, Gratitude and Baby Lee
‘Can I do this?’ his mother agonized, knowing one of her newborns would not live. But for 43 hours, he was hers to cherish.

The second article we recommend to you is an opinion piece written by Ann Coulter called “Abortion Stops a Bleeding Heart” published last Monday about the recent trend for liberal democrats to run away from their pro-choice stand for the sake of continued political viability. It is encouraging to read about the pro-life position so dominating American politics.

Just a side note to those who say the pro-abortionists overestimate the pro-life movement’s strength — READ THIS ARTICLE! We are on the winning side and gaining momentum by the day!
