A Christmas Message from Operation Rescue

Dear Friend,

We have much to celebrate and be thankful for in 2005. The Lord has blessed our efforts to save babies and combat the immoral culture of death across the land.

I cannot tell you exactly how many miles our Truth Trucks have driven, but they have been from coast to coast and most places in between over the past year, exposing literally millions to the truth that abortion is the brutal taking of human life. We were especially blessed when several mothers stopped to tell our Truth Truck drivers that because of the ministry of the Truth Trucks, they chose life for their babies.

I think 2005 was a record year for the closing of abortion mills. From San Jose, California to Cocoa, Florida, the death centers are shutting their doors for good. Operation Rescue helped expose one Kansas City abortionist who ran a filthy, rat-infested mill, and that pressure contributed to the Kansas Board of Healing Arts permanently revoking his license and closing his mill for good.

And he wasn’t the only abortionist who put down his tools of death, never to pick them up again. Operation Rescue is blessed to have been a part in other abortionists leaving the killing industry, especially one particularly heinous killer in San Diego.

In Wichita, KS, where our headquarters is now located, we have had an amazing year. We documented several botched abortions, including one abortion death that has brought new scrutiny to Tiller’s killing business. Clinic workers have quit and businesses have quit supplying services to Tiller over the past year. And the number of abortions Tiller is committing is down significantly – about 13% over last year! Our work here is paying off in saved babies and changed lives.

Speaking of changes, the latest polls are showing a significant shift in Americans’ attitudes toward abortion. More and more people, especially the younger generation, are embracing the pro-life position. Women facing unplanned pregnancies who would have once considered abortion are now choosing life for their babies. The purveyors of abortion are on their way out!

I saw it in their faces just two weeks ago on the Supreme Court steps. I talked with the tired old leaders like Eleanor Smeal, Kim Gandy of Planned Parenthood, and abortion profiteer Susan Hill. They have all lost their “spunk”. I think even they can see their death grip on abortion is slipping away.

God has placed us at the right places, at the right times this past year, and by His grace, we have done much to advance the cause of life and the Kingdom of God.

As 2005 draws to a close and we consider the awesome gift that was given us through the Incarnation of God in Jesus Christ, I would ask that you consider making an end-of-the-year gift to Operation Rescue. It would go a long way toward helping us continue to speak out and protect the vulnerable, innocent children as we enter 2006.

We look forward to the future with great anticipation of the great things God will do through us, with your help.

And from all of your servants here at Operation Rescue, we wish you and your family a most joyous and Blessed Christmas.

Yours for Life,

Troy Newman
President of Operation Rescue

PS Please remember to make a special end-of-the-year Christmas gift to Operation Rescue today so that we can keep pressing forward to see as many babies saved as possible in the coming new year — and maybe even a final end to abortion!

Christmas Carols Bring Good News To Abortion Workers’ Neighborhoods

Wichita, KS — Accompanied by the Truth Truck, Operation Rescue conducted Christmas caroling in the neighborhoods of abortion workers Edna Roach, Sara Phares Brown, and Marguerite Reed, all employees of late-term abortionist George R. Tiller. All three women have been involved in botched abortions resulting in the emergency hospitalization of abortion patients, including one death in January.

The first stop was the neighborhood of Edna Roach. As neighbors returned home for the day, nine rescuers sang traditional Christmas hymns near Roach’s residence. It appeared that no one was at home and that Roach’s car had not been moved for several days. The caroling went off without incident, in sharp contrast to a previous visit to the neighborhood when OR staffers were attacked during a prayer walk.

Roach is known for accompanying ambulances to the emergency room when women are injured during abortions.

Next, the carolers spread Christmas cheer to the neighborhood of Sara Phares Brown, the clinic worker who drove Tiller to the Emergency Room the day 19-year old Christin Gilbert died from abortion complications.

Rescuers offered prayers of Brown’s repentance and salvation. “Sara has recently filed for divorce and is probably going through a difficult time in her life,” said OR spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. “We hope she finds the peace that only a true relationship with God can bring.”

The final destination on OR’s Christmas caroling tour was the neighborhood of Marguerite Reed, the abortion worker who placed the evasive 911 call as Christin Gilbert lay dying at Tiller’s abortion mill on January 13, 2005.

As carolers sung, Reed returned home from work and OR President Troy Newman spoke to her of Gilbert’s death and her need for repentance and forgiveness thought Jesus Christ.

One agitated neighbor was clearly not in the holiday spirit, and stood in her front yard yelling at carolers. Police arrived and informed her that the carolers were well within the law. Prayers were offered for Reed’s repentance and salvation.

“The Good News that Christ came to Earth to atone for our sins was clearly heard in these neighborhoods,” said Newman. “We are aware that abortion workers live often troubled lives. We pray that in this season of peace and good will toward men that these women will repent from the sin of child-killing and find true peace through Jesus Christ and good will toward the pre-born they now persecute.”

Number of Saved Babies is UP! New Survey Shows a Fundamental Shift in Abortion Attitudes

[An AP article published Dec. 19, 2005, indicates that more women who view their pregnancies as “unwanted” at the time of conception are changing their attitudes about their pre-born children and are giving birth instead of aborting. This, coupled with the latest statistics that indicate that the numbers of abortions are falling in the U.S. indicate, as we have been saying for almost two years, that there is a fundamental shift occurring in our nation’s attitude about abortion. Pro-lifers are winning the day!

The title of the article below is somewhat misleading because it erroneously indicates that the babies were unwanted at birth. It could have been more accurately titled: “Number of Babies Saved from Abortion is UP.” We doubt that any of the babies were actually unwanted at the time of birth. By then, the mothers’ attitudes about their babies had obviously changed.

We attribute this shift away from child-killing to primarily two developments: the advent of ultrasound imaging technology and the public use of graphic abortion images. Now, the average American is being exposed to both the reality of the humanity of the innocent child in the womb as well as the gruesome truth about what abortion does to that innocent child. This is making America more and more pro-life. As the societal attitudes continue to shift, the laws restoring legal protections to the pre-born are sure to follow.

The article also mentions that there is a decline in the number of abortionists in America. More and more abortionists are quitting -- or having their licenses revoked, as we have reported recently -- and few are taking their places. This is another victory for pro-lifers, whose prayers and hard work are paying off in the tangible dividends of closed abortion mills and saved babies.

Pro-lifers should be very encouraged by this news! -OR Staff]

Survey shows unwanted births up

ATLANTA – More American women are having babies they didn’t want, a survey indicates, but federal researchers say they don’t know if that means attitudes about abortion are changing.

U.S. women of childbearing age who were surveyed in 2002 revealed that 14 percent of their recent births were unwanted at the time of conception, federal researchers said Monday.

In a similar 1995 survey, only 9 percent were unwanted at the time of conception.
At least one anti-abortion group said the numbers reflect a national “pro-life shift,” while others who research reproductive health issues suggested it might mean less access to abortion.

The latest findings are consistent with the falling rate of abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a New York-based nonprofit group that researches reproductive health issues.

In 1995, for every 100 pregnancies that ended in abortion or a birth, almost 26 ended in abortion. In 2002, 24 ended in abortion, according to Guttmacher data. Read the rest of this entry »
