KSBHA Closes Case Against Tiller in Abortion Death In Spite of Damning Evidence

Citizens vow to pursue the case using other legal remedies.

Wichita, KS — The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts has notified Cheryl Sullenger that it has closed the case against late-term abortionist George R. Tiller in the abortion death of Christin A. Gilbert who died after a third-trimester abortion on January 13, 2005.

Sullenger had filed a complaint against Tiller with the KSBHA after witnessing Gilbert being rushed into the Wesley Medical Center ER, followed moments later by Tiller. That complaint launched an investigation that spanned 11 months before the Board decided at a closed-door meeting not to pursue charges against Tiller.

Gilbert’s autopsy report specifically indicated that she died from “complications to a therapeutic abortion.”

“According to documents we have acquired, Tiller killed Christin Gilbert,” said Sullenger. “We believe the autopsy and other documents prove that he violated the standard of care by misdiagnosing a life-threatening infection as dehydration, sending her to an unequipped hotel room instead of the hospital even though her condition was worsening, and by his staff evading important questions asked by emergency personnel that could have sped help sooner once an ambulance had been summoned.”

“I believe that every Kansan should be concerned about the Board being unwilling to do their job to police the medical profession and protect the health and safety of patients. Because they steadfastly refuse to do their jobs, all Kansans are at risk,” continued Sullenger. “This decision by the Board sends the strong message to other doctors that they will literally allow them get away with murder.”

“This only proves what we have suspected all along, that the KSBHA is in bed with the abortion industry,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Follow the money trail. Tiller gives huge campaign contributions to Gov. Sebelius, who in turn become beholden to the abortionist. Sebelius appoints Larry Buening as KSHBA executive director, who is now beholden to Sebelius. If the KSBHA disciplines Tiller for Gilbert’s death, then Sebelius looses Tiller’s future campaign money and maybe the next election, leaving Buening out of a job. This kind of cronyism and corruption is unacceptable to the honest people of Kansas.”

“The KSBHA may not care about the health and safety of women, but we certainly do,” said Newman. “We will be pursuing this case through other legal venues. We expect to be able to make an announcement about this very soon.”

Prayer Vigils at the US Supreme Court for Two Important Abortion Cases

Please join Operation Rescue in praying for pro-life victories.

Washington, DC — Operation Rescue will join with other pro-life groups in the nation’s capital this week for prayer vigils on behalf of two abortion-related cases that are scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court of the United States on Wednesday. These will be the first cases involving abortion to be heard by the Court under new Chief Justice John Roberts.

Where:
In front of the Supreme Court, Washington DC

When:

  • Tuesday, November 29th from 7:30-8:30 PM
  • Wednesday, November 30th from 9:00-Noon
  • The Supreme Court will hear arguments on Wednesday at 10:00AM for an historic third time in NOW v. Scheidler. This marathon case, brought by the National Organization for Women (NOW) in 1986, sued Joseph Scheidler and other pro-lifers under the federal anti-racketeering laws (RICO) for adversely affecting abortion mill business. In February 2003, the Supreme Court issued an 8-1 ruling in favor of the pro-lifers right to free speech. Now the case is back to the Supreme Court in a dispute over a lower court ruling. (Read more about NOW v. Scheidler)

Immediately after that at 11:00 the Court will hear Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood, a challenge to a New Hampshire law that required parental notification for minor girls to receive abortions. The New Hampshire law was challenged because, although it contained an exception to preserve the life of the mother, it contained no such exception for the health of the mother. Legislators intentionally left out the health exception fearing that it would essentially invalidate the law. This case has the potential to redefine abortion law. (Read more about Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood)

If you cannot come to Washington, DC, please take time wherever you are on Tuesday and Wednesday to pray for pro-life victories in both of these landmark cases.

Prayer Walk At Abortion Worker’s Home Turns Violent

Wichita, KS — A rampaging man attacked two members of Operation Rescue as they gathered in his neighborhood on Wednesday to offer pre-Thanksgiving prayers for the repentance and salvation of abortion worker Edna M. Roach.

The man, believed to be Roach’s husband, stormed from the house, kicked over a Scripture verse sign held by Karen Myers, then crossed the driveway and slapped the video camera held by Cheryl Sullenger before retreating back into the house. Just as Sullenger was struck, a Wichita Police officer pulled up and witnessed the attack.

As he was interviewing the suspect inside the home, another officer arrived and began conversing with the pro-lifers. Keith Mason noticed a woman standing in her driveway observing the gathering and walked over to speak with her about why pro-lifers were in her neighborhood. The woman told Keith to get off her street. As he turned to walk away, she shoved him in the back, causing him to stumble forward.

The second police officer immediately confronted the woman who remained belligerent and uncooperative with the officer. Eventually she left the scene after Keith indicated he would not file charges against her.

Roach is a long-time employee of Women’s Health Care Services, the infamous late-term abortion mill owned and operated by George R. Tiller. She is best known as the worker who accompanies patients suffering from botched abortions to the hospital. Although Roach has no formal training or post-secondary education, she often assists, according to reports, with laminaria insertion and other medical procedures. She often stays at local hotels with late-term abortion patients while they are in labor or recovering from their abortions.

According to records, Roach and her husband, Larry B. Griggs, have both previously been arrested on domestic violence charges. Roach obtained a protective order against Griggs in July, 2005, for verbal and physical abuse, but the order was later recinded.

“Edna lives a life that is immersed in violence,” said Sullenger. “On the job she assists in the violent destruction of pre-born babies, many in the late terms of pregnancy. That alone must take an emotional toll. Then when she goes home, it is to an abusive relationship with a man who may fly into a rage at a moment’s notice. If he would so easily strike me with the police watching him, I can only wonder what he does to her when he knows no one is looking. Edna is a woman trapped in a world of violence of her own making, and desperately needs our prayers. God alone can set her free from the hellish life she has created for herself.”

Police filed a complaint against Sullenger’s attacker that will be submitted to the City Prosecutor, who will later decide if criminal charges will be pursued.
