La Quinta Inns Send Abortionist Tiller Packing

Corporate office orders Tiller to stop using hotel as a hospital

WICHITA, KS — Operation Rescue has been informed by La Quinta Inns that the corporate offices sent an investigator to Wichita and discovered that nurses in the employment of late-term abortionist George Tiller were in fact renting rooms in order to provide medical care to abortion patients undergoing multiple-day procedures at Women?s Health Care Services. La Quinta Inn representative Teresa Ferguson informed OR that Tiller was called by the La Quinta corporate office and told to immediately stop the practice, which they had determined to be an illegal one.

Ferguson also informed Operation Rescue that Tiller was told he could no longer use the La Quinta Inn name to promote his abortion business and ordered Tiller to strip the La Quinta name from all of his literature and website.

Operation Rescue investigators will monitor the situation to insure the local hotel is in compliance with corporate wishes.

“Thanks to hundreds of men and women of conscience who called and brought Tiller’s association with the La Quinta to the attention of the corporate office, an end has been put to this apparently illegal arrangement,” said OR president Troy Newman. “We are thankful that the La Quinta Corporation has done the right thing and sent Tiller packing.”

This news comes just days after Operation Rescue broke the story that one of Tiller’s patients died from abortion complications. Because of details that have come to OR concerning woman’s death, Operation Rescue believes that she may very well have been a guest at the La Quinta.

Police Halt Confiscaton of Property at Tiller’s Mill

Baby items and sidewalk counseling supplies returned to pro-lifers

Wichita, KS — Operation Rescue met with representatives of the Wichita Police Department on Thursday concerning Troy Newman?s arrest and incarceration on littering charges on January 21, and the confiscation of property over three days outside a Wichita abortion mill. Police informed OR that they had met with their legal department and determined that they would no longer confiscate personal property on the public access ways around late-term abortionist George Tiller’s abortion mill, Women’s Health Care Services. Police also indicated that they would not post an officer at the mill full-time, as had been previously suggested, nor would they continue to ticket the Truth Trucks if they were parked legally in the 30-minute parking zone across the street from the mill. Operation Rescue also made arrangements for the return of personal property.

‘This is a 180 degree turn around from last week,” said Newman, who spent 8 hours in jail for placing a bag of dolls on the grassy public easement next to the public sidewalk near the abortion mill entrance. “This is a victory for the sidewalk counselors who can now, without fear of arrest or seizure of property, continue to offer baby blankets, clothing, and other items to needy women who have changed their minds about aborting their babies.”

KSBHA Launches Investigation into Abortion Death

OR holds Candlelight Prayer Vigil to remember unknown victim of abortion complications

Wichita, KS – Operation Rescue held a Candlelight Prayer Vigil at the site of an abortion related death to remember the victim and pray for justice. About 20 people prayed, sang hymns and read Bible passages outside Wesley Medical Center on Thursday evening, two weeks after a critically injured woman was transported there from George Tiller’s late term abortion mill Women’s Health Care Services, on January 13. The woman died from her injuries some days later.

Operation Rescue announced at the vigil that a complaint was filed against George Tiller regarding the abortion death with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts. OR has received written confirmation from the KSBHA that the matter has been assigned to investigators. (View letter from KSBHA)

In other developments, a call to the Wichita Police Homicide Division confirmed that that the victim is currently in the custody of the County Coroner, which is conducting its own investigation. According to a detective who spoke with OR investigators, a preliminary report from the Coroner?s office indicates that there was no indication of criminal acts that would involve a homicide investigation. A full autopsy report is expected in 6-8 weeks.

Meanwhile, Troy Newman and other OR staff members who were eyewitnesses to the arrival of the injured woman by ambulance at Wesley Medical Center have been extensively interviewed by the Wichita Eagle, and television stations KWCH, KAKE, however none have run the story.

“We must not allow the story of this woman’s death to be swept under the rug. We thank the KSBHA for the rapid response and pray their investigation will bring some measure of justice for the deceased,” said Newman. “However, we continue to call for a suspension of Tiller’s license, in the interest of public safety, pending the investigation outcome.”

“Shockingly, Tiller’s abortion mill, where he performs dangerous second and third trimester abortions has less regulation than the vet clinic where I take my cat,” said OR sidewalk counselor Cheryl Sullenger. “Even fast food restaurants must submit to Health Department inspections. However, Tiller’s abortion mill, is exempt from these inspections at the danger of public safety, thanks to Gov. Sebelius, who vetoed the clinic regulation act. We call on the legislature and the governor of Kansas to pass legislation that would require Health Department inspections and other clinic regulations, and for legislation that would restrict dangerous second and third trimester abortions to hospitals. Perhaps if these laws were in place, there would not be a young woman lying on a slab at the morgue today.”
